When should you select and ask your bridal party

Ladies, I need some advice. My wedding is in November 2002 and I don't know when will be an appropriate time to ask people to be in my bridal party. I know exactly who I want to ask and I am confident in my relationships with all of them. My sister will be MOH, and then a sister in law and 4 friends as bridesmaids. I am anxious to tell them already, but is it too early? My FI thinks I should wait until it is one year in advance but I was thinking of doing it over the summer. I wanted to do something special, but I am having a hard time holding it in--everytime I see them, I want to blurt it out. (Except my sister who already knows she will be the MOH). Thanks for your help.

Why wait? Tell 'em now, so they can start saving!!

Just kidding!! I don't see why telling them early would matter. You may want to start looking for dresses over the summer! :) Good luck!

I agree! I asked my girls over a year in advance!! If you know who you want, there is no need to wait. I know Kathi was just kidding about the money issue, but it's true. Being in a wedding does cost a lot of money, some of your girls may appreciate the time to save. Whatever you do- Good Luck!

There are advantages and disadvantages for asking people so far in advance. It's true you'd be giving them enough time to save. Just keep in mind so many things can happen in a year - people can move away, relationships change. BTW, congratulations!
