When someone asks you to pick up lunch/coffee/etc for them...

...do you give them back their exact change?

I had lunch with a couple of colleagues today, and I was holding our seats while one of them ordered for me. About 10 minutes after she came back to the table I asked her if I gave her enough money. She said Oh, yes, more than enough...

But never made any motion to give me any change!!! I was like what the F????

It really made me mad because I'm always so dilligent about giving people the correct change, especially my colleagues.

On the other hand I do have one friend that I'm really lax with about stuff like that. She was my old roommate and when we lived together we always had an 'Oh, well, it'll all even out eventually' policy...

What do you all think?

For colleagues, I would give and expect exact change. For friends, I would be flexible.

That's exactly what I think.

depends who it is.

I stopped picking stuff up for coworkers because I would front the money and they'd never even give it back nor would they ever get anything for me!

I don't do separate receipts or anything, but definitely will calculate exact change. If anything I would round in their favor.

That is just rude of your co-worker. What is wrong with some people?

I don't like borrowing money or when people pay for me. I prefer to be self-sufficient. It drives FH nuts.

I am the same way. ( Except DH agrees with me)

I HATE when friends buy a round of drinks first, b/c inevitably, they won't want a second, or they will be on the house, or something like that, so we don't get the chance to even it out.

I will pick up things for people in my office , but I try to be exact about the change. I won't ask for separate receipts though, b/c that is just too high maintenance.

I never let anyone get me anything, even if was thinking for going my self when they offered.

I never did 'exact' change when I was picking up for a group of cowrkers, but I would round it to the closest dollar.

well given her comment, 'more than enough,' it seems like it is more than just a few pennies... and since you asked her right then if you gave enough..she should have given you your change

i usually will give reciept and their change esp. with colleagues but with friends it is more relaxed
