I was talking to FSIl tonight and I mentioned that we need to order the dresses towards to end of January/Beginning of February. She says that she cant get it that early because she is in the process of loosing weight. The only problem is that I have to ship 3 of the dresses out of state and that could take a while longer.
When should I order them?
ETA: I LOVE how I wrote book and not order...dummy

I think 6 months is enough time...if you wanted to give your FSIL time you could prob do it in March. However, you shold order them when you feel comfortable. We all have the best intentions to loose weight, but if it puts you on a schedule you're not comfortable with, than hopefully she would understand.

We just ordered ours 2 weeks ago for a wedding in February. they told us that they were starting to RUSH JANUARY weddings - meaning they charge more to get it there faster. Id make sure you have at LEAST 4 months and tell them that your wedding is 2 weeks before it really is.

I was told about 5 months ahead of time was good enough but I wanted 6-7 because I have to send 3 of them out of state. it makes me nervous. I know that FSIL will loose weight because she has already lost 27 pounds and she is doing well on working on more. She is just afraid that doing TOO MANY alterations will make the dress look dumb. I dont think it will. I said that the latest we should order them is in Mid February

I was told 5-6 months before. On average they take 3-4 months to come in depending on designer. Some come in sooner than that. But you want them to come in about 2 months before the wedding just in case of mistakes or alterations to be done, thus the 5-6 month window.

I already started ordering mine.. but with the winter coming I didnt want to deal with it

6 months is the norm. I just ordered mine a few weeks ago because I was waiting to see who would be pregnant, but I refused to wait any longer! It typically takes 4 months to arrive and that gives 2 months for alterations, if the girls need them.
If I had a dollar for everyone that said they wanted to lose weight before a wedding, I'd have the wedding paid for.
Actually, I lost 25 pounds between measurements and alterations for my best friend's wedding and it felt great getting it taken in!

I was told give it 4 months from order to alterations being done. & my sis lives in Alaska, it will be shipped to her.
