When to create a registry

When to create a registry

We've been engaged about a month and a half now, and been very focused on trying to get the vendors all set up for the wedding. His mom is planning an engagement party next month, and just sent out all the invites. Now a bunch of people are asking if we're registered anywhere. Did you guys register before your engagement parties?

We got engaged April 27th and we registered about a month ago at BBB for some items for the same reason. We are having an e-party end of July and a ton of people I work with were asking me if I registered yet because they wanted to get us an e-gift. We figured we would register for some items that way if people want to give a gift they can decide on $ or an actual gift. This way we hopefully get something we want from the registry as opposed to something they picked out and we really don't need. All in all though it is the thought that counts.

You could go an do round one....register for wedding cake cutting sets and toasting flutes, etc

You can always go back for pots and pans, dishes, etc

You can do the things you know you want now and then do round 2

We started to set up registries about a year out. my shower was a surprised so my mom told me to have the registry completed by September so I wouldn't have to look at it again. I did have to update a few items that went out of stock or we changed our minds about. My shower was at the end of January.

we registered before our engagement party since a bunch of people wanted to buy us an actual gift rather than just give us cash.

def register now...even if its just for a few things. this way if people want to give gifts they have options. I was going to an eparty last year and mention to a friend i was going to get a gift...my friend replied...well since they arent registered im not giving anything
so you just never know...

Re: When to create a registry

We got engaged in March and I only just registered at both BBB and Macy's. I realized after registering at BBB that I probably should have just registered at Macy's since that's most of the gifty stuff, fine china, glassware, etc. and those are the gifts you typically get at an e-party, not usually cookware and that other stuff.

I've already been asking about my registry, which is why I decided to go and register. I figured if someone asks, I can tell them.

I never had an e-party I always thought gift-giving was only at the bridal shower.
FH and I just registered at Macy's and BB&B this past weekend! Looks like we're pretty late by everyone elses' standards LOL

I got engaged in February and we are having a party thrown for us in July. We have had people asking us about registries practically since the day we got engaged! We just added a handful of items for Macys and BBB last week. I had to convince FH that this was the prudent thing to do : he felt that if we registered, people wouldn't bring cash. I told him that people will bring cash or a gift regardless, depending on what they want to do, so we'd better pick some gifts before we get 200 'Just Engaged' picture frames. lol.

I didn't have an ep, but I think you can have a small registry and add as you go- that way if things go out of stock or design, you can modify. That is my biggest concern with doing it early- patterns might be phased out, etc- so I would do things that are 'complete' if that makes sense (like not 12 place settings- you may not get them all and in a year, etc when you get married- they may be out of production.

we purposly did not register bc we did not want gifts at our e-party. We still don't have a place of our own so where would we have put all that stuff. Plus my choices would hvae changed, we are registering this summer.

We didnt register for our engagement party, but looking back I should have.

Just register for some stemware, china etc. Some of the nicer things. Also, maybe register for a cake knife, toasting flutes etc. The reason is because if you don't, people will just pick it for you. Although I loved the stuff I got I may have picked some different things.
