When to have an e-party?

When to have an e-party?

We've been engaged for ten months and due to family stuff we haven't had an engagement dinner or party. We haven't booked anything, because we're still working out the ceremony and financial aspects, so we don't have an official set in stone wedding date.

FMIL keeps saying that she heard it's poor etiquette to have an e-party when no date is set. Has anyone ever heard of this before? To me it seems like one has nothing to do with the other, but of course I could be wrong.

I disagree with your MIL...it doesn't matter that the wedding date is not set. But I do think the party should closer to the engagement then the wedding.

I agree! We're not planning on hvaing a big party (i wish we could!), but I don't want to wait much longer, b/c people will be annoyed having to get engagement gift, thenshower, gift..etc..we've been engaged for 10 months...I want to finally celebrate!

Then again that would involve his family pretending to be happy for us..soo...we'll wait for pigs to grow wings

I disagree with FMIL, in my oppinion that thinking is crap. We had our engagement party before we set the date. When people asked we gave them a round about answer summer of '05. Make up one to appease her, then if you change it...oh well!

Have it when you can and however you can. FH and I were engaged on July 18, and the first thing I did was start planning the engagement party. Mind you I was looking at halls for the wedding, but I wanted to plan an engagement party. And due to both my parents living out of state, the engagement party is not until April 23, 2005! The wedding is June 29, 2006!

I disagree with your FMIL. We had an engagement party 3 months after we got engaged and we had not set the date. The party is supposed to be about sharing your happiness and excitement. All the guests will be too busy gushing over your ring to worry about the actual date of the wedding.

Check this out....... We have been engaged since May 2002. We had our party in July of 2002 and didn't even start discussing the wedding until April of 2004. Have your party, get some presents, enjoy your engagment, set a date when you feel like it.

I definitly agree!!! Honestly most the Eparties I have been to the couple had already set a wedding date and booked a hall but did that matter???? NO. I was there to celebrate the engagement.. the wedding is a whole nother celebration ( hopefully for my wallet at least a year later)

I feel you can have an e-pary to celebrate your engagement whenever. I was engaged 14 months before we had our e-party. You are celebrating your engagement...don't feel you have to have a wedding date in order to celebrate...

Have Fun!

you can have an eparty whenever you want. my sister got engaged back in february and had an eparty in june.

she didn't even think about dates until i got engaged and set my date before her.

I think you can have an eparty whenever you want! I got engaged in february and we schedule our eparty for 6/11, I got in a really bad car accident the night before, so we didn't end up having it until 8/9! So in my opinion, you can have it whenever you want.
As far as not having a party until you set a date, that's ridiculous - you are not celebrating that you picked a date, you are celebrating that you are going to be getting married in the future!
