Hey everyone..I'm new to this board but already am finding it VERY helpful..I have a question and would love to receive some advice/opinions..I recently just got engaged however we don't plan on getting married until 2012 b/c we have 2 more years before we receive our degrees and we want to finish school first so it's not stressful..I'm hearing so many different things about when to have the engagement party...my future mother-in-law said we should have one soon..but is that too early? I would love to hear your opinions..TIA

Its really up to you. FH and I had ours 3 months after we got engaged. We had our E-party in July of 08 and we will be getting married in Aug of 09. You could wait until the summer for the nice weather since your wedding is in 2012.

FH and I had ours 9 months after we got engaged, but we are having a REALLY long engagement. I have heard you could have one when you first get engaged, a year before teh wedding, or whenever works best for the two of you

We got engaged on new years day, we plan to have the e-party in late March. We are planning the wedding for October 2010.

Generally, most couples have an engagement party anywhere from 2 to 4 months after they get engaged. We had ours 5 months after we got engaged b/c we had it at my parents house and their kitchen was in the middle of being renovated. Really, it's up to you...but like i said, on average...most couples do it within the first 4 months of their engagement.

I got engaged in April 2008. We are having our e-party in March 2009... getting married in June 2010. Its all up to you!!

I agree. It is really up to you! DH and I had our e-party right after our actual engagement. We were engaged on 9/14/06 and we had our e-party in Nov 06. Our wedding wasn't until 9/14/08 so we had lots of time in between. Honestly, I'm glad we did it that way, because once we hit the one year before mark, I already started getting wedding crazy. I wouldn't have been able to handle planning another party 6-9 months before my wedding so I thought 2 yrs before was okay!

CONGRATS! and welcome! I would say a few months after your engagement is fine... you don't want to be engaged for almost 2 years and THEN have a party to celebrate it!

i def say have one soon! esp if u are waiting 2 years to get married! it gives u an opportunity to celebrate qwith fam and friends, and the gifts u will receive area starting point for the 2 of u

we had ours a year b4 the weddign but i went to one for someones who was not getting married for 2 years..i think u can do it whenever..

we got engaged 9/07 and had our engagement party 11/07...we are getting married 10/10.... I dont think you need to wait to celebrate, if you want a party sometime soon go for it

me too. i got engaged in november 2008 and waiting til may or june to have engagement party cause i want it to be outside... wedding isnt til 10/10. :)

It's totally up to you and FH, but I think you should have it while the excitement of being engaged is still fresh. Any time within the first 5 months sounds good. Also, don't be worried about it being to soon because you will have your bridal shower, bachelorette party, and rehearsal dinner to look forward to before the wedding.

Welcome to the board!
We got engaged on 2/3/08 and didn't have our engagement party until a few weeks ago! I figured that since our wedding wasn't until 12/31/09 we could hold off for the eparty as long as we did. Since you're not getting married until 2012, I don't see a reason why you can't wait a while

Thank you all sooo much for your advie I think we're going to do what some of you suggested and have our party in the summer when the weather's nice =) ... BarbieGrl10 which pastor do you know? we know them all because my FH was a student there as well as his mom so his family is pretty close w/ all of the pastors there
