So since I live in CA, and will be having my shower in NY it will definatly not be a surprise. My mom just said she is considering July, and our wedding is at the end of August. I think that is pretty close. Is that rude, to expect people to dish out so much money twice? Is there ettiquette (sp?) regarding the timing of the shower? Help??

My wedding is the beginning of July and I told my mom and sis that I DO NOT want it the month before b/c thats when I will have my Bachelorette shower and it is pretty close to the wedding. I do feel it would be a financial strain on my guests so I think mine will be in May
two to three months before is the normal rule - if there are major holidays maybe earlier then that (usually xmass since it is a heavy gift giving holiday)
2-4 months before is proper. Mine will be a little before that b/c don't want to have in during the hoildays.

Everyone I know as had it 2 or 3 months before.
I think mine is about a month before the wedding (I didn't have a say in the date since its supposed to be a surprise). The BP decided on the date.

MY wedding is in August and I am doing my shower in early May. 2 months is good but it also depends on your situation.
My FSIL's shower was about 5 weeks before the wedding and it was fine. I originally thought it was too close, but it worked out ok. She had time to send thank-you's and all that.
this thread made me think....so I emailed my bm's and told told them to think about spreading everything out cause it all adds up for them and the guests,
