when you are applying for a new job or get the offer, when are you supposed to renegotiate the offer ($$) if you feel that it is necessary to do so?
TIA

Re: When to Negotiate Salary
After they've put the salary offer on the table, I think it's OK to start negotiating. Have you already accepted a number?

I think I did, yes. They called and made the offer and dumb me goes 'thats great' or something to that effect and then she had said that they were going to email me paperwork. Now in the general letter is says you will be making XXXX semimonthly at a salary of XXXXX. However it also says that this is not an official offer (one that i can sign) because background check and what not still needs to be done. Hence, I am confused and probably accepted the offer which is OK bc its more than Im making now but still.....
(sorry that was very long)

Hahaha I dunno if you can come back from that. I have actually renegotiated a PROMOTION (I know, i'm nuts) but basically it was alot more responsibility and I didn't want it unless they were going to compensate me for it.
I'm not gonna bust my a$$ for less money than you would pay someone else, no thanks!!!!!!!

I would say if it's not an official offer, you could still wait. You prob should have said something before but you could still bring it up before you sign paperwork. They won't rescind the offer, the worst that can happen is they say no. . most of the reason men make more is b/c they ask for it. .. !!! so ask and don't be apologetic for not asking earlier, or hesitant.

Re: When to Negotiate Salary
i agree. we give out offers all the time at my company where someone comes back and tries to renegotiate the salary. then we just take the contract and revise the amount if its agreed upon.

I see. To be honest, I think the window of opportunity to ask for more $$ has closed. Did they low ball you or do you just feel you deserve more? I agree that you shouldn't apologize for not asking sooner but you'd like to see if there's any room for negotiation on the salary. You never know until you ask; however, it might be awkward to ask at this time. I know from experience that just getting the job is completely exciting and your excitement doesn't really let you think for a second and decide whether or not the deal you're being offered is a good one. Re: When to Negotiate Salary
Thanks for all ofy our info and advice! But I agree and think that I may have missed my chance, but thats ok I dont think they low balled me, just want to see if I can get more (which wouldnt be crazy to ask for, its a pretty skill specific position.) but i feel that what I am getting is fair.
