When to register??

Hi Girls, I just told my FH today that we should start our registry, but after reading that many items from Macy's become discontinued, I'm unsure if I should start it. We are planning on registering at Bed Bath & Beyond as well as Macys.. plus a honeymoon registry.. I want to find one that does not charge.

Should we start all this during the summer, or wait until spring time? We had no engagement party and I'm thinking my shower will be in April or May.

I'd register in January the absolute latest. That way if the shower is in March and they send out invites in February they can include registry info. HTH!

ETA: I don't know why, but I thought you said March/April for your shower. Then I'd say January/February the latest!

You can start now, but you have to be diligent and make sure you check it or like you said things will be discontinued and your guests will be stuck getting you something that's not on your registry at all! If it were me, I'd wait until the fall- like September/October to do it.

Thanks! I guess I have free time now, during the summer.. and I know back to school time will be busy for me, as I'm a new teacher, so I thought I'd get a head start now, but not sure if I'll be giving myself more frustration than anything!

FH and I registered back in March.. I keep going back and forth with it adding and taking off... if something gets discontinued i just take it off and add something else in its place...

Registering is one of the only 'free' things that has to do with the wedding so we did it as soon as we had a date

Its up to you just make sure you get it done at least a month in advance of when you think your shower will be.... JMO

Definitely not too early to start. FH and I registered in May and we've been receiving a bunch of random gifts from people for our engagement, birthdays, etc. I just keep checking to make sure things aren't discontinued (but I don't think that's generally a problem at BBB).

IMO it is a huge weight off my back now b/c it literally took us 5 hours in BBB to register and I was very prepared.

How did you all let guests know where you were registering? I guess my opportunity would be in the shower invitation?

I started my registry but haven't given the info to anyone or put it on my site yet. There are only a few things up (stuff that I know won't change like my fiestaware and my stand mixer!) We are going to actually go to Macys and pick stuff and put it on our site in November, before my birthday and Christmas since a lot of relatives have been asking for our registry so they can actually get us things we want for holidays. We will probably have to update it again before the shower, whenever that will be!
So I guess my answer is whenever works for you! I say do it before Christmas, but know you will have to update it again later.
