Re: When to register?
I mean, I know some people who registered the minute they got engaged (engagement party gifts etc.)... we started registering last month. I'm not finished yet, because it is/was a bit overwhelming. But I am worried about things going out of stock too!

Re: When to register?
I think more than a year in advance is a bit too far ahead. My bridal shower is going to be in January 2013, so I'm going to register in June 2012. Even that might be a bit early, but most wedding time lines are suggesting around 6 to 9 months before the wedding.
For now, you might want to just make a list of things you want to put on the registry down the line. This way, when you have time to register, you know exactly what you need and the process is a bit less overwhelming.

Re: When to register?
We registered last month, basically at our one year mark. We only did bed bath and beyond. I plan on changing and adding things closer to the wedding since probably our bedding and other stuff might go out of stock. I did it early because I plan on using it as birthday and christmas gifts also.

Re: When to register?
I registered since people wanted buy us engagement gifts. Only a few people did. I registered for my everyday dishes, loveeeee them. I had to return everything we got. The dishes are discontinued and I'm not going to buy a set of 12 + soup bowls.
Hold off or just register for pots or stuff that will hopefully stay around.

Re: When to register?
We registered about 2 weeks after we got engaged since people were already asking my mom where we were registered. We already got about 10 gifts from our registry as engagement gifts!

this! as soon as everyone heard they wanted to know where to go. it definitely helped because we got a lot of money at our party, but almost all of our 'big items' from the registry were purchased for then too!

Re: When to register?
We have been living together for 2 years so we have pretty much everything we need. We might do a honeymoon registry. We arent having an engagement party so thats not an issue for us.

Re: When to register?
We actually just started registering last night.. People have been asking where we are registered since they want to give us engagement gifts, so we decided to do one. I agree registries are so easy to change- I went online last night and deleted and added some stuff to it already. I would say go for it and register now.

I'll wind up following this timeline I think. We browsed BBB this past weekend for some things we really want.

I registered within 2 weeks of being engaged... people started asking and I wanted stuff that I needed not what people thought I needed. You can always return if you don't want it down the road or if it goes out of stock you can update your registry right online. I recommend BBB!!!

Re: When to register?
We registered for a couple things we before the engagement party. Mostly things I thought I could use at the wedding (toasting flutes, cake cutter) and things I wanted to immediately replace in our home (new wine glasses, everyday dishes, picture frames).
Mostly our friends and some of his family purchased from the registry for the E-party. I will do everything else in the fall.

have you looked into a honeymoon registry?? I am trying to do some research on it, but am a little confused about how the whole process works. My FH and I already live together and have everything we need. We registered for a few things from BBB but, we definitely need help paying for the honeymoon.

Re: When to register?
I registered already, a little over a year in advance, because I had family asking for the engagement party which is coming up next month. I will have to go back and add more things to it maybe early next year though. I'm not sure if every store does this, but Bed Bath & Beyond will email you if an item on your registry is going out of stock and will send you a link to the newer versions of the same item.
