When to send out invites and when the RSVP date should be

Ok, I know this is a post that keeps repeating itself but given that everyone is having an RSVP issue these days I was wondering if you ladies could give me your advise on when my invites should be mailed out and when the RSVP date shouls be. My wedding is 9/28/08 and the final headcount is due on 9/16/08.

I would mail them out 7/28/08 and ask that the RSVP be one month (or 3 weeks) before your wedding).

Is one month the standard for how long until RSVP's are due? My RSVP date is July 5 so I was thinking as long as I'm able to get them out by the first week of June that would be good. Do you usually give 5 weeks?

Honestly, it's up to you. The best thing to do is send them out far enough in advance that the guest can make arrangements (with work, babysitters, etc...) to attend. And since we all need to lock it up with the RH, we need enough time to secure the list. So I'm thinking a month before the wedding day gives those that are late responding an extra couple of days to get their a$$ in gear. Not that they need to know that, of course.
