My friend took our engagement pics a couple weeks ago, and last night FH was like, 'I want to start working on our STDs soon. We don't have to send them out right away, but we should get them started so we just have to mail them out when we're ready.' I was pretty impressed that he was actually showing interest! He's so anti-wedding at this point because, as he says, 'It's over a year away!'
So my question is, since I'm getting married next October, when should I send out the STDs?

I would say send them out between 6 months and a year prior to the event. I sent mine out at the 6 months mark. It's really up to you

I guess about a year before is ok but actually if you start them now and you're ready to send them out and its more than a year to your wedding I think thats fine! You're just giving people more notice about your day! Im alittle less t han a year away and haven't sent them yet cause we're waiting for e-pics!! I already know what I want so as soon as I get them back Im ordering and sending!

I am getting married also in October, I am starting to look at save the dates now, figured by the time I get the list started, order them, it will be around late October into November.

I sent mine out a year in advance just b/c my wedding is a holiday weekend and I didn't want people to make plans.

well I didnt have a year mark we got engaged in May and will me married in May so for me the year thing didnt work I have them all ready to go out this weekend so Im technically at 9 months also I am getting married on a holiday weekend so i wanted them out earlier but I think 6 months would be the norm

I am getting married in Dec 2009 and I'm sending STDs out in October of this year. A little early for my taste but FH is insisting I send them out then since it's really his family that needs them.

I sent mine at the 1 year mark. I wish I never sent them at all, I sent them to a few people that I wish I never sent them 2. And I'm breaking the rules I'm NOT sending them an invite.

I'm only sending them to the people I DEFINITELY WANT at my wedding so that I don't feel obligated to invite everyone who got a STD. Some people we're iffy about as far as inviting them to the wedding, so we might send them a STD closer to the wedding. But definitely family and friends would get them first. I'm with you, Tori, and I don't want to send them to people that aren't getting a wedding invite.
