When to start a registry

When to start a registry

I see that a lot of 2014ers have already started their registries. I've been worrying about starting one too early. Inventory will eventually deplete and some stuff could just stop being sold by the time of my shower! So is there a timeframe when it's pretty safe to start adding stuff? Do you update it if things run out?

I started mine in August, and my wedding isn't until June of next year. I chose a china pattern that I know is a staple of that brand, and anything else I an choosing (pots, pans, etc), if they stop making them, I can always fill it in with newer pieces. There are very rarely COMPLETELY different collections. And for bedding, etc, you can just add that closer to your bridal shower, because that will definitely change drastically season to season.

Hope this helps!

We were extremely overzealous and did ours right after we got engaged. We've recieved so many gifts for holidays so far.
FH is constantly updating it..it's kind of his obsession. I don't really think there's a specific time frame.
And I kind of hope our china doesn't get discontinued! I love it and we only have 5- 5 piece settings so far!

I was literally just thinking about this. I'm DYING to register. Also, I would like to do a little bit at a time b/c I feel like the whole process can be overwhelming. I noticed a lot of brides whose weddings are after mine, are already registered, but according to theknot.com, I don't need to register until 6-8 months before the wedding. I guess it's just a personal preference. I think I'm going to start next month though.

I did my baby registry 2 months before the shower and i couldn't stop checking it!! Plus stuff kept going outta stock! I'm gonna wait til we get a little closer bc I'll go nuts checking it for 10 months!! Lol

I did mine almost exactly a year before, I was told 6-12 months before was the norm.

It's definitely personal preference. I'm not registering until next February at the earliest.

FH and I are planning on doing our registry about 2 weeks to 1 month before our engagement party this August. Although the registry wouldn't be broadcasted it will be there for those that will want it. This was something that we learned when FH's brother was engaged. Their whole family really hoped that they had their registry done much earlier, or at least part of it done so egifts could come from it.

FH and I just registered for this reason. Our eparty is June 2nd and I just wanted it out of the way so my mother would leave me alone.

We registered a couple weeks after our engagement party about 4 months after we got engaged. I've only registered for things that will not be discontinued.

We registered right before the holidays, so about a year out. The woman at BBB tried to discourage us and told us to come back in July, but we did it anyway. Once it was done, we did get a lot of engagement gifts (we did not have an e-party), so I think it's worth it.

Also, those knot timelines are for brides in Idaho who probably get boxed gifts at their weddings so if you want to register, DO NOT listen to them! I got my 9 month reminder the other day and it told me to search for venues. Ok, knot.

Wanted to add that there is nothing wrong with Idaho, it's brides, or boxed gifts but that's just not the way it generally works here in NY!

I'm thinking we'll probably register about 8-10 months before the wedding!
