When to start looking...

I'm getting married September of '06, when do i start looking for my dress and the bridesmaids dresses?

my wedding is July 4 before you and i ordered my dress and i won't get it until April of next year. You want it to come at a good time. BM dress are so hard. Because you want something that is nice but also flattering on all the girls. And research stuff before you sign any papers. But you can also ask the girls anything here and we don't mind helping.

Start looking NOW..you never know how long it will take you the find THE ONE!! I am in October 06 and I ordered mine 3 weeks ago...it wont be in for 8-10 months!! You should get going on that!!!

I'm late July and was planning on starting this summer and being done by August 31 - giving myself about 2 - 2 1/2 months but I'm probably gonna get crazed and go everyday till I find a dress -- I'm so excited!!!

I would start now too. You just never know how long it will take. Plus, after you buy it, you want to give yourself time for a few fittings, alterations, cleaning, etc.

I am on July 2, I thought I would start in July, giving it a year from my date. I am in the midst of loosing weight I am nervous about goign to early. I have lost 22 lbs so far and I have another 23 to go by July but imagine what I could loose in a year, which is why I am nervous.

What to do?

I was told that you should start looking a year in advance - and i was told you should give a false wedding date earlier than your real one because shipping etc may take longer than anticipated!

I would start looking ASAP! It might take you a few months to find 'the one' Plus some dresses take up to 10 months to come in depending on the designer..

I am getting married March 06 & I ordered BM & my dress in November 04...

Ok so I am getting married in July 2006, I haven't started looking for my dress or BM dresses yet. But I am starting once my MOH gets back from studying overseas next week. After reading everybody's responses I am starting to get a little worried.

Well.. I ordered my dress this past February. Im getting married NEXT August (06). I wasn't even planning on buying a dress. I went to an Eve of Milady trunk show and found 'the one'. My first fitting is next February.

i'm just gonna disagree with everyone. My friend got married in a span of 6 months, got her dress at RK Bridal in the City (it was ordred...a good designer) and got it within a month or so. So did my friend sfp0214...she got her dress within a few months.

Therefore, I am waiting till I am ready to go.

ASAP!!! You don't want to wait too long and chance your dress coming in too late and having to rush through alterations. Or worse, finding THE ONE and learning that it's been discontinued. I was almost heartbroken to learn that my dress is from the 2002 line, they discontinued it but then (thank God) they brought it back by popular demand. But I wouldn't count on that always happening. Some girls plan their wedding in a year so technically you have time but I wouldn't risk it. Even the BMs, you want to give them plenty of time to go for their fittings and come up with the $$ needed for their dresses.

I am also September 06 I ordered my dress in March and it won't be in till 8 to 10 months. For the bridesmaids I am waiting till September of this year to go looking a few of the girls said that would be better to get a better idea for colors and styles so thats what I am doing with that

I bought my dress back in Febuary because it was at a trunk show and it was the dress I just kept going back too. As for the bridesmaids dresses, we'll start looking toward the end of the summer.

I ordered my dress about three weeks ago and I'm glad I did because mine could take up to 12 months to come in! But that's specific to the particular designer. I think you're fine as long as you leave atleast 10 months.

Im getting married the day before you and I havent started looking yet. Im probably gonna start at the end of the summer. Everyone is telling me(including people who sell wedding dresses) that I have time.

Thanks lisa982006 I got scared reading everyones response last night also...and i went into work and i was asking people who are getting married in 06 and they said give youself a year. I was a MOH in a wedding last June and we went looking the summer before...the dress came in months before the wedding that the girl had her dress a month before her date..so i think this summer is plenty of time...thanks!!
