When to start looking at day care centers?

I'm 19.5 weeks along.

And did you/would you choose one closer to work or home? I work in Port Washington, live in Wantagh. Part of me feels like if the baby gets sick I'll want to be able to get there quickly, but another part of me feels like I don't want to drive so far on highways everyday with the baby.

I would look close to work-JMO. The baby will most likely sleep on the road home or you can have 'talk' time. Even though Molly cannot really talk back to me I still talk to her in the car.
I started to look when I was 6-7 months pregnant. Some have waiting lists so you need to get on the list early.
