When to start looking for a dress

I'm almost a year away from our wedding (Nov 4th) and I'm sooooo not ready (physically) to start looking at dresses! but, when should I?. I was thinking maybe February, around that time..when I'm 9 months away. Any suggestions on when to look? I've got to lose some serious weight before hand!!
Thanks!

It depends on the dress salon and how long it would take for the dress to come in. I think 6-9 months before is the average. If you have any particular stores in mind that you plan to shop at then you can call them and ask when you should order by.

Hey there wedding weekend twin! LOL

I would start looking now. You don't know how many different places you are going to want to go to and how long it will take you to find 'the dress'. Most places recommend ordering your own 9-12 months prior to the wedding, although many dresses can be ordered closer than that. I would start looking in mags and make a few appointments to see what you like and go from there.

I started looking and found mine at 13 months away. I would suggest to start before 9 months, only because you want to be prepared in case you don't find your dress right away.

I started looking around 13months away & found & purchased my dress around the one year mark. It's never too early to start, imo.

Thanks everyone! guess I better get my butt in shape then lol this is giving me some big time motivation to start hitting the gym. I'm going to call up a few bridal stores and ask them. I really only planned on going to Davids Bridal but I have no idea what kind of dress I want, I just know I want sleeves so it may take awhile to find 'the dress'!.

I agree. I started looking and ordered 14 months in advance.

i kept saying i wanted to wait til i got in shape, but that never worked. i dont think its ever to early to start looking. you may luck out and find it right away but then again you may need that extra time to keep looking.

i got mine just shy of my one year mark

i held off . . lol ordered my dress the beginning of the month .. and im an april bride .. ill have to admit it got a bit stressful only bc i started so late .. but i do think i had a better shopping experience with out that extra 20 lbs lol .. depends on the dress store/maker ive heard up to 9 months .. and davids bridal told me 2 months .. wedding center where i ordered mine said 3 months .. so it depends where your looking what your going for .. good luck! it was fun ..

I would try not to wait TOO long, but don't stress. You have time.

Hi date twin!!!!! I have not started looking yet, I plan on starting to look in January. I figure 11 months should be more than enough time. :)

It really depends on the style of your dress and where you're getting it from.I would say now would be a good time or at least some general idea on the designs you like. I had to decide on mine really quick since I'm getting it custom made overseas so it takes time. I hope you find your perfect dress soon!

I would start looking sooner than later....it could take a while to find one you love, and then several months for the dress to come in. You will do a number of fittings anyway, so I wouldn't worry about your weight/shape right now....good luck!
