You should def check the internet... The prices on the net are usually cheaper so research before you go to the travel agent.

I used MAS Travel as well and John was great. He got us a 7th night free that no other agent had gotten us. He was also really knowledgable about the area we're going to even though a lot of people haven't been there before (Anguilla). I originally thought a direct flight to a nearby island with a ferry ride to Anguilla would be easier than connecting in San Juan and taking a prop plane. He explained that this would actually add about 4 hours onto my trip! I never would've realized that til I got there. I highly recommend using an agent. They travel all the time and can give you great advice.

I also used a travel agent, but she's located in California. I've used her for previous trips.

Just to compare, she was still cheaper than doing my reservations online.......about $2K cheaper.....go figure?

We used expedia, as always. We are addicted to that site.

We used a travel agent but did all our research online first so we knew ballpark prices. when she came back with prices for different places, if the price was cheaper online we told her and she worked it out so it was actually cheaper through her.

We booked it ourself online...it was cheaper than the many quotes that we received from various travel agents.

We did all of ours online. However, FH travels at lease once per week for work, so he has standing with American Airlines, Marriott, etc. We also do quite a bit of traveling ourselves. So, if you know what you're doing and what you're looking for...I'd say do it yourself. If, however, you feel more comfortable having someone who does it all of the time to answer your questions, then go to a travel agent.

I checked all the prices online and the travel agent at Liberty Travel beat those prices by about $12 per night.

We (OK, me!) did all our research online, I have a list of like 20 sites, narrowed down the place and emailed TA that are e-based from recommendations on theknot's HM board. I booked online with a TA and got the lowest price BY FAR, by over $1K. The way TA make commissions is that they buy their packages from 'wholesalers' or trip agencies I think they're called at a discount (wholesale) and sell it to us at a higher price. I booked through Hayley at Beach Bum Vacation

Good luck!

Travel agents make comission from the various companies thry sell, called Tour Operators. They do not get any money anymore for booking airlines tickets.

What you are really paying for is the Service...You are going to a professional whose business it is to know Travel. A good Travel agent will be able to talk to you, find out what your interests are and then sugguest a location for a trip. That is a good Travel agent.... They can also get special amenities or upgrades for their clients if they book alot with a certain supplier ( hotel, Cruise, ect)

Ways to pick a travel agent:
#1. Referrals from friends. Talk to your friends and see who they used, Talk to family or people that you work with. 9 times out of 10 travel agents get thier business by referrals.
#2. Set up an appointment with them, talk to them on the phone to give them some ideas about where you think you would like to go, budget, and past trips. That way they are ready for you when you come in.
#3. It doesn't hurt to shop around or do your homework before you go.. Just remember...
When you are using a travel agent, you have someone on your side... Someone who can help you if your filght gets cancelled or someone that can call the hotel ahead of time and ask for an upgrade for you.....
#4. Feel comfortable with the person that you are booking with.. See their operation, how do they run thier business.. Have they been to the location that you are requesting... Do they know someone that has been there???

**** I work for a Major Cruise line and I used to work for Sandals Resorts. If you need some suggestions on travel agents I would be more than happy to help you...

Good luck
