When you buy sneakers....

When you buy sneakers....

Do you buy them by appearance?
- or -
Do you try to stay in the catagories(Baseball/Softball, Basketball, Cardio, Fitness, Dance, Golf, Running, Soccer, Tennis, Walking) of what you are looking for?

Because I saw a pair that I like and they are considered for Tennis -- I just need a pair for the gym and everyday

TIA

I buy only running sneakers (I'm a runner). But I also have to find a pair that look good too!

Tennis shoes are actually pretty good for cross training, so I wouldn't worry about it.

It depends on what I'm doing. When I had a part time job that I was on my feet for all day long, I wanted cross trainers that were supportive. But now that I mostly run for exercise, I have running shoes.

I was actually just thining about that Saturday when
I was in Sports Authority.

I need wide with & I can only find that in running, but really I prefer the look of the walking hiking ones & that's more what I use them for anyway.

Running ones are usually the most expensive & only really neccessary for runing, but I don't think it is a problem to use them for other activities.

I buy cross training since I use them for running, step class, kick boxing, spinning, all purpose!

I usually go for comfort and features first, like Reebok DMX has gel padding where the ball of your foot is. I like that A LOT!

Believe it or not I go for the cheapest ones. Years ago I would go for look when I was single I wish I would buy for look now.

First, I go for category (cross trainers) then I go for look.

Since I mostly wear them just to exercise, I usually go for comfort and price.

I need something that's going to be supprotive b/c o my back problems..that and appearance are my primary concerns. I think if you're just using them for everyday and the gym, basically any sneaker will do the jobl.

I have a cute pair of Sketchers for running around town and then I have my better quality running shoes that live at the gym.

Actually, running are the worst ones to buy if you're doing anything else but running, because they offer little suppport throughout the foot other than in the arch. (5+ years of working in a sports store, and you can be a sneaker nerd too! )

Heather, you should look into New Balance, they do cross trainers in wide widths. Rockport also does walkers in wide widths.

usuk2004,

Which ones have a strong arch? Becasue I notice my arches feel a little achy - also they are old sneakers

Ok I consider myself a shoe Queen with at one point in my life having over 250 prs of shoes and working in a shoe store for over 5 years I can tell you this for the gym cross training is best, all around support and comfort, tennis shoes have really no sole, the support isnt that great, the sole are meant for a tennis court. Running shoes have a diffrent arch and more support for the ball of your foot so when you run you dont damage that part of your foot. I found New BAlance have wide and extra wide widths and some styles are really cute. So not to sound like a shoe dork but styles (running, tennis) do matter for what activities you do, do.

cost then look then comfort. If I don't have all three, then I'm not buying.
