what is the typical procedure? Do you call them, confirm the date is available and they hold it for you for 24-48 hours till you give a deposit?
Some places take credit card deposits over the phone but what's the protocol for that? Do you get some written confirmation from them ASAP that it was for the right date?

I guess you can leave a deposit by credit card over the phone, but if you have the opportunity to go there, you have to sign a contract and get a copy of it. I don't think you can do that over the phone.

when we decided on our rh they held it for us for almost 72 hours so i could come in and put down our deposit.. but nobody else told me i would be able to do this
also im pretty sure that if someone else would have come in to book my date while it was 'on hold' they would have booked it, but who knows
if you're seriously interested i would just try and put down your deposit asap..ours was 500 so it wasn't bad

After I confirmed the date with my church, we called the RH. That was a Tuesday night at about 8pm. I asked if they could hold the date until I could get there over the weekend. They 'penciled' me in and held the date for me until the following Sunday so that I could come in and give the deposit and get the contract. We also wanted to show our parents the RH, so we brought them with us when we made the deposit.

it depends on the place. i decided on my RH in september after my sister, FH & I saw the place & picked a room. since my parents where going to be the ones to sign the contract & leave the deposit, they worked with me until my parents could go see the place. honestly this took until december. there were a lot of phone calls back & forth & they where willing to continue to hold the date only up until january. so the basically held it for me for 3.5 months.
i took my parents to see the place on a sunday & we wrote up the contract. they only gave us one week to go back to sign the contract & give a deposit. our deposit was $5,000.

we decided on our rh 2 months after we first saw it, so when we had decided we just went back and signed everything there and gave a cash deposit, we never called them for them to hold our date

Most RH's won't allow you to use cc. It is cash or check normally. Some places will say they will hold it for you for a certain amount of time but not all. I told the guy at my hall i'd let him know in a day or two if i was going to book the place. I did that went 2 days later with my deposit in the form of a check.

Our Rh let us hold the date by charging my debit card. See if they can do that for you. There policy was no CREDIT cards, but they did take the debit card. Then, we went back about two weeks later to sign the contract. Our quote was only good until like September 1st and we signed on August 31st so we definitely cut it close lol
