I am a little disapppointed because so far the only people who have gone with me are my mom and my grandma. I dont have any sisters and none of my friends are in my wedding party, so I feel bad asking them to come. My two cousins are maids of honor and one lives about 4 hours away and the other one is about 5 months pregnant, so I feel bad asking her to come, but today I will be very close to where she lives to look for a dress and I called her last night and asked if she wanted to come and she said she didn't think she could make it (no explanation why). It's just disappointing because I went to so many bridal salons with her when she was getting married. I have been to approximately 5 places and neither of them have come or have even volunteered to come. I guess I'm just venting, but it is upsetting to me.

Re: When you went dress shopping for yourself...
I'm sorry to hear that...for me...all my friends are already married & have kids, and my wedding party is my 2 bro's & the one's wife...so i had a similar situation of not getting people to come with me....but a couple friends did come with me once...and then my BF, although not in my party, came faithfully with me to like 10 different places looking...it was just the 2 of us on most trips and we had a blast!
My issue was getting my mom to come with me...she never wanted to which upset me...but she ended up coming the one time my friend couldn't make it & that's when i found my dress!
I think you should ask some friends...even though they are not in the wedding party I think they would be excited to go with you...i've had friends whose BP i wasn't in, and i had more fun doing stuff with them because i wasn't 'obligated' to help out... I wish my grandmas were still around to have come with me...you are very lucky...good luck and have fun looking!!!!

I went with just my mom and my grandma.
Honestly, I know you're disappointed, but it's better that way. The more people you go with, the more conflicting opinions you get from people. You could drive yourself insane that way. You're much better off picking one or two people whose opinions you trust and just doing the whole thing with them.

I brought my mom only. When i had a few in my mind- I then brought my MOH to see and get her opinion!!!

Re: When you went dress shopping for yourself...
i went with my mom, fmil and kamille (kam0813). Someone mentioned it earlier- its better not to have a whole entourage with you because then opinions conflict which creates drama and one dress you may REALLYYY like and so does your family- a friend or a cousin wont.... Hang in there it will all work out for you! i promise!!

My MOH came with me and she was very helpful too me. My mom passed away in Feb. so I really don't have anyone else. Hope all works out well for you.

Re: When you went dress shopping for yourself...
I went with my sister one time..I went alone twice, and the last time I was with my mom and two friends and that's when I found my dress.
I liked going alone..it made me less distracted and I didn't feel rushed.

I'm sorry to hear that. I went with 3 of my BM the first time just to look around, but the actually trying on of dresses was just my me and mom.

Re: When you went dress shopping for yourself...
Ive been out looking a total of 4 times, and all times my FMIL came, and once an aunt also came...but otherwise it was just us 2.
I prefer it that way..I want everyone to be surprised

Re: When you went dress shopping for yourself...
I just brought my mom with me. I didnt even think to ask anyone else (my sister or my bridesmaids). I showed them all the pictures AFTER I got the dress
We only have family in our BP. My friends were more than happy to come even though they weren't BMs.
When you have too many people with you, it's harder to make a decision and plus you get influenced by so many opinions.

Re: When you went dress shopping for yourself...
my MOH picked out my dress and went with me to try it on. When i start my fittings, i will have my MIL , MOH and probably my sister come with me.
sometimes, the less people that come with you are better

Re: When you went dress shopping for yourself...
I went with just my mom (and it was like pulling teeth to get even her to come with me!) None of my BM or my MOH offered to come when I told them I was going dress shopping, and my FMIL lives too far away. Oh well, in the end it worked out better that way!

Re: When you went dress shopping for yourself...
I went with my Mom, sister, aunt and Grandma. I do think it is easier with less people though. Once I picked it, i brought FMIL to see it. I haven't showed it to anyone else yet.

Re: When you went dress shopping for yourself...
@ first I was sad that I did not have a bunch of people come with me (I always thought I would have a lot of friends/family there) ~ but then I decided It would be a surprise for everyone on the big day who did not see me...
