When you were a kid, how did you picture yourself at the age you are now?

I am 27.

When I was a kid I thought that after college, I would live in a fabulous penthouse in NYC or LA and have a glamorous job...I guess I got this idea when Mattel came out with 'Working Girl Barbie' ....she came with a suit and a briefcase.

Then after that I figured I would marry a rich guy and stay happily at home with the kids.
I wish!

I am not laughing AT you, but WITH you, because I used to think the same thing!!!

I thought by going to college Id automatically have a fabulous, high-paying job and Id have 2 kids by now!

Too bad I can barely make it from one paycheck to the next and the thought of a child scares me!

Definitely kids and house...not living abroad with a part-time job and two friends!!

ETA: I had Working Girl Barbie too (oh, wait, I think she was Day to Nite BArbie, her skirt reveresed into a poufy party skirt, sorry)

Husband would be a financial officer, we'd have a big colonial house in Conneticut on the water, I'd drive a Sapphire Blue Mercedes, and by now I'd have 2 kids ...

I thought that I was going to be a famous artist or writer, live in SoHo. Get married...eventually.

Well, I'm a legal secretary and hate it and the only time I get to SoHo is for a drink (and that's pushing it).

Oh well, if that had happened I probably would have turned into some pompous PITA that only lives to read the society page.

I think I'm better off this way.

Oh boy - when I was a kid, I thought I'd be super famous and loaded rich by the time I grew up! I'd be married too, with kids and we'd have a huge house because that's what happens when you grow up....

Well, I am 26, borderline broke after paying mortgage, loans, cc debt, etc., about as not-famous as they come and while I am married - the though of being a mom right now frightens me as well! Oh yeah, and I'm still waiting to feel like a 'grown-up'!! I think my kid perspective was WAY better, honestly!

thought id be married and have at least two kids.. no going through a divorce after 7 months of marriage. its funny how so different life can actually be then what you dream...

I'm 27. I thought after I got my master's I'd have a job that I loved, be a workaholic, and be rich. I always said that I didn't want to have kids and I didn't want to get married until I was about 40 so I could have a companion for old age! Boy how things change. I have an o.k. job that I kinda like, nowhere near rich, be married at 28, and we talk about having kids! Just gotta laugh......

A) Dead (I mean who gets OLD?!?!)
B) Living under water in a sea lab up to my ears in paperwork and stale air and LOVING every moment of it.
C) Living out some exotic romantic novel story. Living with some ultra rich guy, doing charity work and social events with my free time while teaching my children how to be 'down to earth'.

HAh!

Instead Im a hard working insurance broker trying to work my way up and haven't a penny to my name!

I pictured myself married, teaching and having my first baby by 27. Well, I got the married part down, and the teaching part, but not the baby part . But hopefully that will be coming soon!

Yup, she was Day to Night Barbie- I still have her around here somewhere.

So, I am 25. The only 'age' limit that I had on myself was that I would be married at 24. I got engaged at 23 and we had a 2 year engagement (my choice on the 2 year engagement)

But, I *still* envision my future as being full of money, fabulous, and having all of the greatest things...someday! (long way to go!)

And kids...4. but, I don't know when (not now)

i pictured myself with long brown hair and for some reason i was still in the 80s, but now. i said id be going 'dancing' everynight... which i NEVER do! I thought I'd be acting or singing. Now I really have no ambition to do that. I dropped my manager, my real passion now is toy breeds and so i want to make a doggy clothes line. Now I want my baby to be the star! I thought I was a lesbain when i was younger, but for some reason i always pictured myself marrying a guy.... which i am! and i thought i'd be living in California, or in a posh NYC apt. I live in NYC, but i wouldnt call it posh! I also thought I'd just marry into money. (So bad for such a young thing to want!... anyway, that didnt go as planned either)

I pictured myself working on wall street or being a famous fashion designer, b/c I was always crazy about fashion. I also pictured myself marrying a Jewish or Italian man (I am marrying a Italian man) I grew up in MA and I pictured myself coming to NYC, and I did.

How young are we talking? Around 10 or 11 years old, I wanted to be a veterinarian. Me and a few my friends, actually. We all rode horses together and were huge animal freaks so we thought that would be a perfect career. Then I was introduced to biology. Oops, no medicine for me.

As a teenager, I wanted to be a psychologist then an English teacher. Now I am in book publishing. What a wild turn I took


I did think I would have my own horse by now and that hasn't happened so I am disappointed

I'm 23

When I was a little girl I thought I would be a successful attorney working for a big corporation. Actually I had this dream until my sophmore year of college. Then realized law school was just too consuming. Love law, hate school.

Definitely thought I'd be married eventually but a career always came first in mind.

Love is better. Hence my priority switch

i thought i would either be:
1-married iwth seven kids and a stay at home mom...wow, glad that one didn't happen...can't even handle us, let alone kids!
2-winning my fourth oscar and dating george clooney and being the one he settles down with...that was mid high school.
3-or that i would be business woman with a corner office and a car service!
