When your FI and parents don't agree.....

When your FI and parents don't agree.....

So for the most part, my FI loves and respects my parents and they him. This wedding process has brought out sides in everyone I had not planned for. For example, when my parents set the guest limit at 200, and my FI wanted to invite himself over 100, we had a huge blow-up after I told him no. We seemd to work that one out, but now my parents dont want to have a videographer at the wedding because 1) they think it is intrusive, 2) unnecessary and 3) too costly. I don't really care one way or another, but my FI really wants one there. What do I do? Tell him to pay for it on his own? He is extremely generous and giving, but don't want to paint my parents as anal and restrictive (which they're not- we're having a huge, expensive, saturday night fete). Has this happened to anyone else? Which side did you 'anchor' with? THANKS!

You have to anchor with your future husband. By getting married you are creating an alliance with him. You are 'leaving your parents house' and forming a life with him. I know sometimes it's hard to please all parties but as a married couple you really 'have to have each other's back' so to speak. If not you will be lettting outside forces into your relationship. Not saying that your family is, but some families can be very manipulative in that area.

If he wants video maybe you should give in and pay for it yourselves. At first I didn't want it but I changed my mind. When I changed photographers it suddenly became a lot more affordable.
