Where and how much can a nice dress cost?

Hi Ladies,
Is it possible to find a nice dress that doesn't cost more than $1200.00???

For me , I think it's crazy to spend thousands for a dress you are only going to wear once. That is my personal feeling. I know that many expensive dresses are gorgeous, but I feel that I can find a dress that is just as nice. Am I wrong?.

My friends who are former brides some say 'yes' and some say 'no way'.

I will be starting my search soon because I just learned that it may take months to order.

What do you think?

Where are good places to start?
I have heard many bad things about Bridal reflections.
What about Macy's in Manhasset?? They have a Bridal boutique--or is that cheesy?

Also, I have heard horror stories about places that have snobs that work there and when you tell them your size or budget they all of a sudden can't help you.

I want a place where they are very helpful because I have no idea what I want!

my dress was $1000. I got it at paradise bridal.

You can definitley get dress for less than $1200. I know most of the Demetrios dresses I tried on at Macy's was less than that and Macy's is more money than other places so if you find a style you like, you can call other bridal salons and see if they have it. I know that some salons were about $200 cheaper than Macy's. I just went with them b/c I liked their service (Lake Grove). My dress was originally about $1350 and b/c I brought it at their trunk show, I saved 15% off the dress which brought it down to like $1,100 and my girls and mom save 15% off their dresses if they purchase from there.

I have heard a lot of bad things about Bridal Reflections and I think that they carry a lot of high end dresses.

I know the designer Mon Cheri and Mori Lee are not badly priced. Also, Maggie Sottero.

There are so many different designers out there. I wouldn't worry.

I'm thinking of going to group USA I think there is a store in Nyack and Jersey...they have their own designer and all their dresses are under $700...I like alot of what is on their website...alot are designer reproductions. Here's the link: Group USA

Hi,
Many people have suggested Maggie Sottero. Do you know which places carry her line?
I live on the Queens/Nassau border and many of the stores are very far out East.
