Should I register? We've been engaged since July 2008... and we had our engagement party already... my shower isn't going to be until NEXT summer (2010)... but I know so many other brides that have registered. I want to... but FH doesn't. He wants to wait until its closer to the wedding... and until we have our own place so we'll know what we need (space wise). but i want to do it nowwww!
Also, not sure WHERE to register... I don't really like bbb and I hate the fact that EVERYONE registers there... We really want to register at le gourmet chef, but they don't have a registry but where else is there? (not- online, must be local)

Re: Where and When...
If it was me, I'd wait until you were a little closer to your bridal shower, only because you've already had your engagement party and because registries sell out of items, discontinue them and by the time you do really NEED one, you'll have to have updated it a million times. But still, if you want to put a handful of things on, it wouldn't hurt :)

Re: Where and When...
I registered a couple months after we got engaged, but it was also before our e-party. But remember, people may also buy you stuff off the registry for birthdays, christmas, etc.
I registered at BBB, Macys, and Amazon.

Re: Where and When...
You can regester at Crate and Barrel, or Wiiliams Sonoma.
The only reason to register early is if people are going to buy you engagement gifts.
If they are not (or have not) wait till about 3 months before the shower...or register BEFORE the invitations go out for the shower.
Good luck.

Re: Where and When...
If your FH doesn't want to register now, I would listen to him. It's not worth an argument or fight just because you want to get ahead on things.
That's just my opinion, though. Of course you should do what feels right to both of you!
We are registered at BBB only as far as stores go, and I also registered on Traveler's Joy for our honeymoon registry. We like the idea of including our guests in our honeymoon and weren't big fans of asking them to buy us expensive stuff. We're also not having a shower (or I guess I'm not) so the only time we'll get registry gifts is for the wedding itself.

You do have a lot of time and the stuff does change every seaon you can start in FAll

WAIT to register!!!!!!!!!!! or else you're going to find yourself registering again later on when all your stuff becomes discontinued... and its a huge disappointment when you cant get something that you loved... we registered about 3-4 months before my shower
BBB is your best bet... yes, everyone does it... but their return policy is prob the best out there... you can return anything on your registry for cash... and everyone loves using the 20% coupons... macys has same stuff but higher priced and not everyone gets the coupons....

Re: Where and When...
I think you can register whenever you want! You dont have to register for everything now, you can start slow, and build your registry! I would definately wait until closer to your shower to register for formal china (which tends to get discontinued), but other than that you can definately get started.
For example, you know you will need pots and pans, and cooking supplies. That stuff doesnt get discontinued.
I registered at Crate and Barrel, Williams Sonoma, Bloomingdales and tiffanys. Its definitely possible not to register at BBB. Crate and Barrel also carries furniture which you and FH might like once you move in together. They told us to register for furniture so that if no one buys it, we can get it at a discount.
