I have never been to a greek wedding, im the first girl to get married on the Greek side and i dont know what we need for the church.. I know we need the crowns, do we need those tall candles too? What else, does anyone know???

whoa greek girls have been in demand lately lol
ive only been to 1 greek wedding ( i know so sad), and you need the stefana (crowns), stefanothiki probably so the stefana dont get crushed after the ceremony (thats the little case to put the crowns in), lambades (tall candles), and i think thats about it, and whatever youre planning to throw afterwards (i.e rice, petals etc)

Where are you getting your crowns from, i saw one website and they all looked so feminine! FH isn’t really into pearls and flowers! Or is that how they all are?

i jsut went through this with my brother. lol
the koumbara is supposed to buy u guys the crowns, the lambades, the silver tray.
the tray can be stainless steel.(who cares lol) on the tray you will need white jordan almonds to cover the entire surface area of the tray.. the crowns (stefana) will be placed ontop of the almonds. u will need 2 smaller candles for each of u.. the realllly tall candles are mearly there for decoration. those are optional.
I purchased all this stuff at PORTARA in Bayside. on francis lewis blvd. the lady works with u and does EVERYTHING. u can doa package deal with the stefana and the tray.. and she assmbles everythign with the almonds. and also makes the lambades.
Your koumbara/koumbaro have to be both greek orthodox ( u can also just have 1)and they have to show proof that they were baptized as well as members of a greek orthodox church.
They are responsible for all these items, as well as your wedding favors.

Technically, your koumbaro/koumbara are supposed to buy those tall candle things, the favors, and the stefana....also, the tray with the koufeta (almonds) that the stefana rest on before they put them on your head.....
I was my cousins koumbara last year and had to buy all this crap...the lambathes (candles) the stefana, the church membership, the crowns, the koufeta, and the favors.......
waaaaaaaay too much $

I think the Koumbara also pays for the bridal shower gifts, right? Mine is planning on it. We are discussing ring holders.

ive never heard of her paying for bridal shower favors. thats some sheeeit! lol technically the bp is supposed to throw the bride the shower.. but u all know how that goes lol

We are only having 1 my brother, who is my little meat head and I know he is just going to give me his cc I cant see him going and buying my crowns etc.. lol I didn’t even know about a silver tray, I think I will make a trip out to frannie lew! Thanks my fellow greeks~

my brother is the only other greek up there with us, but he isnt fh's bm does he get to baptize the first kid?? I never heard this, fh and i always fight whos brother will be the godfather! I win???

as far as baptizing your children. u pick who u want .. our koumbaroi are my godparents. i researched the bawls out of this.. and found out the highest honor u can give is getting stefanosed(HA) by ur godparents.

well if you are raising your children greek orthodox, the godparent has to be greek orthodox also....
With us, they will be raised greek orthodox but also have a catholic 'witness', which will be FH sister....so its kind of like they will have the greek orthodox godparent, since they have to be greek if you are baptizing and raising the baby greek, and a catholic one also but the primary one is greek.
