We were happy with the service and our cabinets (BIL & DH did the install, except the granite countertop).

Not really sure if they were pricey, we had a session scheduled with Home Depot and they made us wait, then blew us off so we never even priced it with them.

Consumers and Home Depot had similar pricing. We wound up with Kraftmaid cabinets from Home Depot - I hated the Consumers guy we were dealing with and I really liked the HD designer.

Now there's $12K worth of cabinets sitting in my living room

I think we spent $7K (or maybe $9K but for some reason $7K sticks in my mind) for our Kraftmaid cabinets and granite countertops (about four or five years ago).

ETA: We used the Consumers out near MacArthur ...

Got my cabinets at Consumers. Spent about $7,000 there, and we were quoted over $8,000 at Home Depot for the same product! Plus, we got Silestone countertops (also at Consumer's) for about $1,200 less than the Home Depot price.

I went to the Consumer's in Commack and absolutely hated the designer we met with at first. The next morning I called and told the manager that I didn't want to cheat myself of the opportunity for saving money, and she set me up with another designer - who was awesome.

Ikea - cost about $2k, but that's because we installed them ourselves.
