We went with Valley National Bank( They are a New Jersey based bank but have locations in NYC).... because of the amount of money we would need to borrow most banks we would be considered a jumbo loan, however with this bank we were able to get a 30 year fixed rate nterest, zero points and a rate of 5.75.
We didn't shop around much, also my sister inlaw used the same bank...

Re: Where did you get your mortgage?
we'll have a jumbo as well. Did you put down 20%?
sounds like a good deal!

Re: Where did you get your mortgage?
yes, we put 20%. but we got a regular 30 year fixed rate, we did not have to get a jumbo loan... Many of the other banks we would have to have been a jumbo... which would have meant a higher rate.
We are using my DH's Union, CWA. No closing costs and they can provide the lawyer.

We used bethpage federal credit union. Can complain too much, their closing costs are low, rates are competitive, usually a little lower than standard banks, but their customer services isnt the tops!

Re: Where did you get your mortgage?
As I'm investigating as well, the mortgage guy I've been speaking to explained to us that there is a way to divide the mortgage up so you don't have to take a 'jumbo' loan. We only have 10% to put down, and would do a 80/10

We went through Mortgage Concepts. They were so great and very helpful.
