I will be getting ready at my parents house, so once I pick up the dress, it will go to their house. Where did you hang yours once your brought it home from the dress shop? At what point are you supposed to take it out of the garment bag? I have no clue what will work. TIA!

You are supposed to take it out of the bag as soon as you get it home and hang it.
My parents have a big closet in the dinning room, we opened up both doors and hung a hook on the inside ceiling and hung the dress from there.

I took it out of the bag because they had already steamed and pressed it. I hung it on the back of a door in my mom's extra bedroom. I can't wait to wear it next week!!!

Yay!! Can you believe it's November already? I just can't!
The problem at their house is that the ceilings aren't very high, there's no place really high enough to put it so the train can hang without hitting anything. There has to be someplace it will hang correctly. Thanks for your responses!!

Re: Where did you hang your dress at home?
See I had wondered the same thing before my wedding - WHERE the heck would I put my dress?!!? Especially since I have a dog and I was afraid that she would be curious with it and possibly ruin it!
So since I was also trying to move before the wedding and in the process created the biggest mess ever in my parent's house and because of the busy schedule in the week before the wedding, the only day I could pick up my dress was the day before the wedding.
They tell you to take the dress out of the bag - or at LEAST the train - as soon as you get it home.
I hung it on the door of my closet when I got it home and put a clear garbage bag on the floor so that the train wouldn't touch the floor.
Then the morning of the wedding I realized that wasn't the best place so I moved it and hung it from the curtain rod of the main window in my bedroom. It was higher up and the train just grazed the floor if I remember correctly. Turned out well because that's where my photographer took pictures of it.
Hope that helps! I've even seen pics of dresses hanging from ceiling fans! That would have been an option if I didn't realize I could just hang it off the curtain rod (ps: I didn't move the curtain at all, just hung the dress over the curtain).

Thanks so much! I have the same problem at my parents...with a dog and two cats. That's a great idea about the curtain rod though. I'll have to see if that works.

Re: Where did you hang your dress at home?
Well, I didn't pick my dress up until the day before our wedding...DH and I live together and I didn't want him to see it.
So Thursday night, we hung it on my closet door, which my closets are huge & very high off the floor. Then we took the bag off and fluffed the dress out.....
Crap..you were supposed to take it out...-rolls- NO WONDER I had wrinkles! O well. not like the damn bustle stayed in place anyway

I was just discussing this at my fitting yesterday! The seamstress said to put in a ceiling hook and hang it from there.

Re: Where did you hang your dress at home?
My dad bought a shower curtain rod (a really long one from bed, bath and beyond) and hung it in my parent's room and we hung the dress on it and put a sheet on the floor and let the train hang and spread out on the sheet. It worked perfectly.

Re: Where did you hang your dress at home?
After my dad put a hole in his ceiling and then realizing that it would not hold there and a hole in the wall b/c the dress needed to hang freely, we hung it from their central air vent in their living room out of the bag. You are supposed to take the dress out of the bag when you get home b/c it is already pressed. This was one of our biggest dilemma's but only b/c we didn't think of it before we brought the dress home.
ETA: Make sure you put a sheet on the floor under the train when it lays out b/c you dont want it to get dirty.

I hung mine on a closet door...and then spread the train out on a tray table, which i had covered with a sheet...and kept my office door closed so my dogs & dh couldn't get to it!

Re: Where did you hang your dress at home?
I had already moved out of my parents house the week before I picked up my dress, so I hung it from a plant hook in the ceiling in my old bedroom.

It should come with directions. I hung mine on the back of my closet door. I unpinned the train and lifted up the garment bag to approximately waist height.

We took the bottom of the dress out of the bag and hung it on a closet door. Hang it anywhere that you can pull the train flat so it doesnt wrinkle
