Where do I begin??

Where do I begin??

I met my fiancé 6 years ago while we were both living in Florida. I moved to LI 4 years ago to attend Grad School. My FH is originally from LI, so he moved with me. He has a very large Italian/Irish family, but I do not have any family here in NY. Most of my family lives in Florida and Arizona. We are planning to marry in NY, since his family is so large, while mine is not. I am finding it hard to start my planning without my family here. Like where do I begin? What should I do first? I don’t want to bug his family. My future MIL has already said a few times, “Just tell me where I need to be, what time, and what I need to wear”.
Any suggestions????

Begin with the location, everything flows from there. Since you will have a lot of OOT guests you may want to look for a place with a hotel or one that has one nearby. My RH - Fox Hallow - is great in that sense. They have their own hotel next to the RH. I would look at previous posts for RH suggestions. Good luck! HTH

I agree with this 100%! Fox Hollow is a great idea and will save your family the hassle of travelling between hotel and venue. I also agree that picking a date and a place is the first step! Make sure to ask your family beforehand about dates that will definitely not work for them due to work/travel/etc.

Also it's not too soon to start on your guest list and budget.

The Hamlet Windwatch also has a hotel right next to it in Hauppauge - the Hyatt. Also some hotels also do weddings too.....Depending on your budget getting married at a hotel in NYC might be nice too because then your guests can fly into JFK or LGA and have a short ride into Manhattan.... HTH! & Congrats!!!

I would definitely agree with this...also could you try reaching out to youtr family just for support and guidance even though they aren't here? I'm sure they could offer you some great suggestions for how to go about planning.

Dont worry...do the RH first and everything will fall in to place ....and you have your FH to help you out but when it comes to flowers and thing like that ..i would ask your FML to help out ...it sounds like she would ...it would never hurt to ask....good luck

My FMIL said the exact same thing to me about our wedding but she is so into helping out with the planning process. I think they say that so they don't sound like they are being too pushy but I am sure she's be more than happy to help esp knowing you don't have any real family here on LI.

GL and happy planning!!!

My FH is the same way... told me to set everything up and tell him a date and time to be there....

My sister-in-law told me to check out a website called eventnow... its supposedly a company where you submit a budget and local caterers and photographers etc. contact you if they can fit it... its all free...

you ladies ever heard of this? is it worth a shot?
