Re: where do I start?

step 1: take a deep breath, relax, kiss your fiance, and celebrate with your family. Don't let yourself get swept away by the wedding stuff right away, or it will just take over your life. Remember, the most important thing here is your marriage to your fiance, not your wedding!

step 2: okay, now you're ready to plan. There are three things you need before you start: a budget (and who is paying for it), a date (or at least a general idea, within a few weeks), and a general idea of the number of guests you'll be inviting.

once you have those three things, then you can start looking at things. Start with locations - if you have a church you really must be married at, check with them on the date you want, and see if you can book it, or what their policy is there. If you don't already have a church you want, then you can either find a reception hall first and then find a church nearby, or find the church first and find a reception hall nearby. Decide which is more important to you, and go from there.

That should keep you busy for a while. After that, I'd look at music, photo/video, flowers, dress shopping, etc. But don't worry about those for a little while yet, or you'll drive yourself insane.

Re: where do I start?

Congrats on your engagement. I would first consult with a wedding guide to see round a bout when things need to get done. There is a great one on this website in My Wedding.

main advice, relax and enjoy every minute of it!!

The first thing you should do is sit back and enjoy being engaged for a few days.....

Re: where do I start?

So funny, me too!
I am in exactly the same boat, I got engaged on Saturday and I am going CRAZY!!!!
I have a budget and everyone says the first thing to do is book the hall and religious/ceremony location if you are not getting married at the hall.

If you are getting married at a church, DO NOT tell them you are looking at reception halls, they get pissed that they are not the first priority on your list.

Good luck, I am going to need it too!!!!

I agree!! CONGRATS.....The hall & the church (if you are getting married in one) should be the first things you do.

Congrats!

I started with getting brides magazines and pouring over them for ideas, knowledge, etc!

I would look into RH quickly, though, so I have a good idea on price and contract and availability!

Re: where do I start?

Congrats!!! Isn't it just all so exciting?? The weekend after we got engaged, my fiance and I went to the church and booked the hall. We had a date in mind, but when we found out the hall we wanted was $15,000 cheaper in february, all of a sudden, we became very flexible with the date!

Enjoy this time for as long as you can. I would definitely go with booking the places (hall and church) first. That way, not only are you engaged, but you have your wedding date set!! It just makes everything more magical to know on that day, you will be getting married.

Have fun!!!

Re: where do I start?

Congratulations. Definitely look for your hall first, and you can probably go dress shopping at the same time. But without a hall there is no way to book anything else
