Where do Parent stand at the Wedding?

Just had religious counseling with the rabbi... we taked about the wedding and where everyone stands.... He said parents sit in front row... I don't mind that for my parents but I called FMIL and told her and she got upset- she wanted to stand as close to fh as possible.... She said that parents stand up there with us and disagreed. what is everyone else doing?

hmmm.... I don't think the parents stand up there with the bride and groom. My parents will be on my side in the front row and his parents will be opposite. Sitting down... not right near us

At a jewish wedding the parents usually stand under the huppah on the side of their child...

I agree with Valenia, parents should be standing under the chuppah on the side of their child.

All the weddings I've been at the parents have sat in the front row.

I'm catholic, but I've been to a lot of Jewish weddings - from what I've seen, at Jewish weddings, the parents always stand next to the bride/groom, and at Catholic they sit in the second pew (bp in first pew).

what would a good comprimise be for an interfaith wedding? I'm Catholic and I expect no one with us under the Chuppah as we get married, and he is jewish and I am sure his folks expect to be there with us

dubliner, are you having both priest and rabbi marrying you? May be both of your parents can stand there. I saw that in an interfaith jewish-catholic ceremony.

I would prefer to be alone, without parents, as we are married. I am trying to have a comprimise ready for when my FMIL brings up the subject

At my best friend's wedding, (she's jewish) both parents were under the huppa...her parents were right next to me (I was MOH) and his parents next to the best man...also b/c they did that part where the moms walk the bride around the groom 7 times

I've also been in a wedding where the parents weren't under the huppa, but that girl hardly knew any Jewish customs at all.

At Jewish weddings, the parents are definitely under the chuppah with the bride and groom, and share in the wine, etc. I had an interfaith wedding (he is Catholic, and I am Jewish), and we had both parents up there with us. It was so nice for both sets. We even had our maid of honor and best man up there as well, although they didn't share in the wine. They lit the individual candles and then handed them to us so we could light the unity candle. It was beautiful.

My parents and My DH parents all stood under the Chuppah...My rabbi told us that is it to Symbolize the joining of the families in a new home. All the weddings I have been too both sets of parents have stood under the chuppah on the sides...

We're having an interfaith ceremony as well but I think we'll have the parents sitting. My parents are divorced and I have one stepmother, so I imagine that it will be crowded up there. My FI's parents, who are Jewish, suggested that we have all the parents sit down.

Re: Where do Parent stand at the Wedding?- SOme Jewish wedding tips

Here's the nitty-gritty on who sits where and who walks when at a Jewish wedding. But remember, these are just guidelines -- feel free to adapt these rules or make up your own.

TAKING SIDES
The age-old tradition of 'bride's side' and 'groom's side' of the sanctuary still stands, but the usher need not ask guests whose 'side' they are on. For Jewish services, the groom's side is the left and the bride's side is the right when looking from back to front. However, should someone express a preference for one side or the other (many guests will just say off the bat that they are friends or relatives of the bride or groom), they should be seated where they choose (makes sense, yes?). If one side of the family will have many more guests than the other, ushers should even out the sides; they can explain that everyone will be sitting together, and that guests will have the best possible view this way.

THE JEWISH PROCESSION
For Jewish services, the wedding party enters in this order:

Rabbi and/or cantor

Grandparents of the bride

Grandparents of the groom
(The grandparents are seated in the first rows; groom's family on the left, bride's family on the right)

Next to come down the aisle and remain standing under the huppah:

Groomsmen (in pairs)

Best man

The groom, escorted by his parents (father on his right, mother on his left)

Bridesmaids (starting with she who will stand farthest from the bride under the huppah)

Honor attendant(s)

Ring bearer and/or flower girl (child attendants can be seated with their parents once they reach the front)

The bride, escorted by her parents (father on her right, mother on her left)

THE JEWISH RECESSIONAL
After the ceremony, the procession is reversed, and the men in the wedding party escort the women:

Bride and groom

Bride's parents

Groom's parents

Brides grandparents

Grooms grandparents

Ring bearer and flower girl (optional)

Honor attendants (maid/matron of honor and best man)

Bridesmaids and groomsmen

Rabbi and/or Cantor

I chanded it by Having the Bridesmaids walk with groomsmen after the Grandparents.
