We know nothing about morgages, real estate taxes etc? We want to buy a house within the next 6-12 mos. Where do we start? Are there any books or classes? Financial advisors?

After our closing we found out about the Community Development Corp. , which provides free advice, classes, and programs for first time home buyers on Long Island. They were so helpful--tons of programs out there with closing cost assistance, etc. They will help you find the best rate, with no other motive because they are not affiliated with any banks!

I was just going to recommend CDC! We are attending a 2 day class through them on 12/13 & 14. It goes through the entire home buying process from soup to nuts. I also read some books on first time home buying. One was Home buying for dummies. There's also mortgages for dummies.
