We decided that we are going to start looking at houses in the upstate area, it willb e our weekend house since my husbands job has us live in the city. We have never purchased a home or apartment. I know both our credit is excellent but we really dotn know where to begin.
SHould we look and let the agent handle all the mortgage issues or what. I am really confused....

Get a good mortgage broker, have them get your info and first find out what you can afford and get a pre-approval. Then look for houses for about half that much, lol. I got approved for a lot more than I can afford.
Now that you know what your price range is, find a broker that can show you all properties listed by all agents, not just by their company. Then, meet with them and tell them what you are looking for then they will spend a couple hours with you looking at properties.
My advice- bid away. Until you go into contract you can pull out so if you like something , bid on it. Don't let it get away if it is something good because chances are, other people like it too.
