Where do you eat in Great Neck? (and surrounding areas)

We moved there a few months ago but are still having trouble getting our way around.

(Was a suffolk girl and always will be )

Anyway I'm looking for yummy restaurants of any kind that people like. We found a cute place in Little Neck called The Grotto, is there anywhere else?

We have also eaten at BK Sweenys in Douglaston, but that's it. I dont want us to fall into the same 2 or 3 restaurants!

Thanks so much!!!

My all time favorite restaurant in GN is Panchos. Best mexican ever! Ginos Pizza is also good. I went to GNS so I know lots of things about the area. If you have any other questions, feel free to FM me.

And PS -- I'm a Suffolk girl now ... where did you move from? Maybe we can exchange ideas.

My dad went to GNS too
I worked in GNN last year....

As for restaurants.....the main road running through town has great places to eat...I can't remember what the names are right now...and I'd tell you the name of the road, but it changes like 4 times...at one point it's Lakeville though.
But it's nice, you can walk and shop in the little shops and then get a bite to eat...
Also, on Northern Blvd, on the way to Manhaset, there's a great Chinese restauarant, not sure of the name...but it's yummy.
wish i could be more help!!
(we moved to Glen Cove after our wedding, and have been going through the same thing )

Middle Neck Road?

There's Matteo's in Roslyn - it's excellent!

Being a North Shore girl, I can give you some recommendations for the Great Neck area and Glen Cove.

Great Neck area:
- Panchos is great mexican place.
- There is a great sushi resteraunt on one of the main roads, of course I can't remember the name. But it is nice inside, with plush seats.

Glen Cove area:
- Wild Fig is great! It is our favorite Greek resteraunt and you never have to wait. The food is excellent and the service is very good
- Hunan Palace (I think this is the name, we alway's called it 'Jerry's' because my parents became friendly with the owner). It is on the corner of Glen Cove Rd. and Norther Blvd (about 2 doors down). EXCELLENT chinese food, but a bit fancy & pricey. But definately worth it.

Other great North Shore/Nassau resteraunts:
- Nick & Maggie's in New Hyde Park is worth the 10 min drive from Great Neck. We had our rehearsal dinner there. The food is really good. Try an espresso martini - YUM! Good menu: steak, pasta, seafood.
- Louie's in Port Washington is really nice. Especially since they redid the entire thing. Food is good and it is right on the water.
- ShishKaBob is also in Port Washington on the water. Very good food, long wait on a Sat night sometimes.
- Poco Loco is a mexican resteruant in Roslyn. Very good food (esp Guacamole), they have outdoor seating in the summer. It is a yummy resteraunt and a convenient location.
- Tequilla Sunrise (Bayside & Roslyn) has the best fresh guacamole, they make it at your table. The rest of the menu is fantastic too. Plus great margaritas.
- Papazio is a small italian resteraunt on Bell Blvd in Bayside (10 mins from Great Neck). It is one of my favorite resteraunts in the area. Small, cozy & romantic. Nice wine list and yummy food. My favorite is the angel hair with 'rose sauce'.

FM me if you want some other ideas. I still go back to the area for dinner, doctors, hair salon, etc.

Hey! I grew up in Great Neck! My favorite restaurant is Turkoise... it's right across the street from the train station.... the owner is Israeli, and usually on Saturday night it's packed with all the local Israeli's... truly truly truly YUMMY if you like fish... second vote is for Panchos (the banana margarita is DELICIOUS!!!), and third vote is for Matteo's... there are also a few really good lobster places in port washington, but I can't remember the names...sorry!

Mmmm... now I'm hungry

i grew up in GN as well ... (and still live in the area)

Pancho's -- while i dont think the food is amazing, it's a GREAT local place and i love going there.

La Rotunda -- around the corner from Pancho's, really good brick oven pizza and salads.

Matsuya -- my personal favorite Japanese restaurant in GN, in waldbaum's shopping center (Daruma is the most well known and generally well liked Japanese in GN on Middle Neck Rd., but it's not my favorite)

Wild Ginger -- very good Thai/asian fusion food - somewhat pricey (also in waldbaum's shopping center)

Santorini, My Love -- meditteranean fish place, awesome food, one of my favorite places in GN (Great Neck Rd, across from waldbaum's shopping center)

Gino's -- like everyone else said, plain old good pizza.

I love Daruma. The best japanese restaurant I've been to.

Definitely Poncho's for Mexican and Wild Ginger for Asian (fusion stuff). In Douglaston there is Thai Eatery and Giardinos (Italian) on Northern Blvd by Douglaston Parkway (not so far from Great Neck and Little Neck).

I also like Cafe Altadonna (Italian) and TJK Cafe (I guess just regular, American food), both on the LIE service road in Little Neck. I'll think of more and let you know...

I second Bruce's and the Thai Eatery and Giardinos. They are both great! I go out to those places when I visit my FH in Whitestone.
