Where do you get a copy of a previous marriage's marriage license? UPDATE
marriage license... he found out the county and city in Louisiana where he got married from his ex!!! We're on our way!!! with MY luck, his marriage license will be in the EXACT FILE CABINET where KATRINA hit!)
Calling Vitalchek again... keep your fingers crossed (and thanks, again, for your help!)
Okay... Vital check wasn't the right place, but they led me to the right place! AND... it's EASY TO GET! They confirmed they HAVE the record... (Katrina didn't hit it!) and if I mail the requet out today, I should be able to get it in about a week!!!

Re: Where do you get a birth certificate?
Was your husband baptisted? Because my FH can't find his birth certificate, so we are going to use his baptism certificate. But you can also use a valid pass port too. If not your going to have to go to the town he was born in and get a copy. OR you could get it online. Some sites can get it for you within 24 hrs. But I don't how much.

The baptismal certificate is fine. You need an official picture idea (ie passport/drivers lic) and something that certifies your date of birth...ie birth certificate etc. I ordered my birth certificate online, it took about 6 weeks to be mailed to be.

Re: Where do you get a birth certificate?
LIKELY you can get the divorce papers from the state of Louisiana. He needs to find a number for 'vital records' and call. If he can remember the county he got married and/or divorced in, that would help...he needs to have his divorce certificate/papers to prove that marriage is over. where he got married isn't as important as where he got divorced...they would have the record of the divorce.
I know in my quest to get a new birth certificate recently from NC I had 2 options, through the state office OR the county I was born in. Luckilly, I had my dad get it from the county same day.

I'm on hold for Vitalchek right now. The Muzak sux.
great... we need a letter from the priest saying that time is of the essence and we need this asap, or else it will take 6-8 weeks. This just keeps getting better and better. AND they can't process it until we know what city or county he was married in, which he still doesn't know.
eta: we already got his divorce records from TX because we knew he'd need that for the marriage license. We didn't know he would need his original marriage license, too!

Are you sure you need the marriage license from his first marriage? My DH was married once before as well, and all they needed to see was the divorce papers.

yeah... my priest said he needs to see my FH's baptismal certificate, divorce decree and marriage license so he can see that he wasn't married by a priest. Then we have to go fill out all this paperwork and he has to send all those papers into the diocese of Rockville Centre!
Thanks, everyone. I can't believe this. My FH has to track down his ex, call her and ask her where they were married. ugh...
