Where do you get your book ideas?

Where do you get your book ideas?

Of course getting friends reviews of books is always the best.
I also check Amazon reviews, and maybe the 'hot' shelf at the library...
Does anyone follow a certain 'topsellers' list on which book to read next?

Sometimes I may decide to read a classic and go off my own list

My ideas for what to read really come from which book my friends lend me. I've got a great book 'network'

i get hooked on authors. sidney sheldon (old but good), james patterson (i read all of his!), etc.

but lately i've been reading suggestions from my bf & mom. they always pick good ones (this summer i read suzanne's diary for nicholas; this is graceanne's book; white oleander; lovely bones).

i always read history based books- this summer i read the john adams biography; guns, germs, & steel; founding brothers; now i'm on the conquerers (fdr & truman).

i have three friends who work for publishers- two of them send me books frequently (from macgraw-hill & st. martin's press). love it! i get all kinds of goodies from them- history books, cook books, everything!

i'm looking forward to the mystery/thriller book club on this site.

eta: my bf (she's an editor) reads oldies often- she just finished shogun!!! (crazy long book!) who reads that book??!!

I rate what I've read on Amazon, and they give me suggestions, which I then get on my own. I don't order from there much.

I also get ideas from friends, and wandering around bookstores.

My main source of reading material comes from'tried and true' authors. These are a llist of authors who I anxiously wait each new book.

My second source of reading material comes from my Mom - she loves to read just like me and we are constantly trading books.

Another good source of books is a shelf at my library called 'staff picks'. I have picked up a couple of good ones there.

And when all else fails - I go to the book store and browse. I create a list of possibilities and then reserve them at my librbay (I can't afford to buy all new books!)

And hopefully I will get good ideas from this site. Already I got one - Four days to Vera Cruz - this is one I would not have seen - and it was good!

have your read Theodore Rex?

I like to get recommendations from people...from websites (like amazon or here)...I also like to stroll around the book store...I picked up Bridget Jone's Diary when it first came out that way...the NYT list (hardcover and paperback) lists are good too
