It can be anywhere in New York. I live in Queens, and getting married in Long Island. I got my marriage license in Manhattan.

Anywhere in the state. We did ours at FH's home town because it's a quaint victorian house and made it special instead of waiting in line all day in the city

Get your certificate in NYC - neither of us have our birth certificates, and in NYC, you don't need it as part of your identification

You can go anywhere in NY to get your marriage license. I would suggest going somewhere close to where you live though because if you need to ever order more you have to go back to that office. So convenience is key.
