I think the rule of thumb is that you invite all of the women who are being invited to the wedding. Supposedly it is in bad form to invite someone to your shower who will not be invited to the wedding.

Re: Where do you start when making?
I agree, you shouldnt invite someone to your shower unless you are inviting them to your wedding. I woudl be insulted if that happened to me!
Anyway, I put on my invite list, all family, friends and serious g'f of male friends. The only ones I really didnt invite was work people.

Re: Where do you start when making?
The proper etiquette is to invite all females that are invited to the wedding....I did not want 60-80 people at my shower so I limited my list to the BP, family, and close friends/friends of family.....and it's still around 30-40 I think (there were additions made after I turned my list over to my MOH).

I don't think you have to invite all females who are invited to your wedding. I mean its' nice to branch out on gift options! But I don't think every person who knows they are invited to your wedding need be invited to your shower.

Re: Where do you start when making?
I would NOT invite all women invited to the wedding, but you can't invite people to the shower WITHOUT inviting them to the wedding also.
I would say all female family members, yours and his, close friends and wives/girlfriends of close friends.
ETA: Aren't you having a Jack and Jill shower? Keep it to close close people, especially if you're having men there.

Re: Where do you start when making?
I wouldn't invite certain women, like wives of my dad's friends, and FMIL's friends, since I don't know them. FMIL's friends are invited to the wedding b/c FH knows them, not me. Coworkers I would invite, but not the wives of male coworkers.
However, I don't know if it will be up to me.

Re: Where do you start when making?
I put the women that I am closest to on my list. There are wives of my cousins that I have never met, so I didn't bother to include them. I felt that this was my day with my closest family and friends, so I was going to include who I wanted to.

Re: Where do you start when making?
anyone invited to shower should be invited to wedding
doesnt have to be all women, can exclude coworkers, and anyone else who may not be close...

Re: Where do you start when making?
Start with the people you actually want there - friends, close family, family friends, etc. I don't think it needs to be every woman on your list. And like everyone else said, if they are invited to the shower they should be invited to the wedding. Good luck

Re: Where do you start when making?
I made a really concise list for my shower...I took off all the out of state relatives, and ones I didn't really know that well. I stuck mostly with friends and family. My FMIL (who's throwing me my shower) nagged me into letting her invite almost all of the women invited to the wedding, including people I've never met, people who live on the other side of the country. I don't really see the point in inviting these people, since they're not even going to come....but what can you do?

Re: Where do you start when making?
I did every female that I knew that I was inviting. I didn't invite DH's friends wives, since i knew they wouldn't know anyone, since some of them I have never met.
I don't think that everyone needs to be invited though, unless you want them to be.
My BM's made me make a list also, it seesm to be common these days.

Re: Where do you start when making?
I made a list for my bridesmaids and included close family and friends. I did not invite anyone who wouldn't know my name when the invitation came to them (for instance, FMIL's friends and coworkers who I have never met). I thought it would be embarrasing for someone to call to respond and have to ask who this person was that was being given a shower. I also only invited out of state guests that had said they wanted to send me a gift. I didn't want the rest of the out of staters to feel obligated to send something.

Re: Where do you start when making?
I had my mom and MIL make a list and I invited my close friends. Turned out to be 75 people you do not have to invite all the women who will be at the wedding. Girlfriends or wives of your FI friends don't need to be invited. This should be people who are close to you and your moms IMO
