I've found that going directly to the airline website can sometimes be your best bet.. I don't ever seem to get good deals from Travelocity, Expedia, etc..

I use expedia & orbitz to get an idea of which airlines fly non-stop where I want to go and then comaprison shop on the sites you mentioned or the airlines site for the best price.

On one trip we saved $80 on tickets purchased at Orbitz vs. the airline. But a lot of the airlines have discounted web fares.

I always book thru the airline's websites - I watch fares and price them thru different places (expedia, orbitz, travelocity, cheap tickets) and find that 98% of the time the best fare is thru the actual airlines website. I find often that the mass sites charge 5-20$ more than you can get thru the airline itself.

WARNING WARNING!!! DO NOT USE THESE SERVICES TO BOOK!!!!

use them to find the flight that you want and the carrier...and then go to that carriers site and you'll find it $5-10 cheaper!!!

if you don't call them up and say 'travelocity had this price' and see what they can work out...

I was the victim of travelocity...We got a great deal...a confirmation email...and then almost double charged to our CC...when I called they said that i waited to long to click and confirm...BUT they CONFIRMED the price...

make sure that you print out EVERY CONFIRMATION PAGE AND SAVE EVERY EMAIL!!!

I had to fight this with AMEX for months!!!

OMG...Erica...was AMEX able to resolve the issue? That's TERRIBLE!

I used expedia to book my flights to the Bahamas in April and used Orbitz to do my honeymoon flights last October and both seemed to work out fine, but now I will be careful!

Thanks for the warning!

Re: Where does everyone go online to book flights?

AMEX took the extra charges off right away...thank goodness for them...

the awful thing is that I had used travelocity about a dozen times in the last 5 years or so...and orbitz

I just bought tickets last week...looked on travelocity and then went to the delta site...

btw...travelocity knows every click to their webpage you made...they tried to claim that b/c I looked one day at the flight that I was too late when i booked it the next day...but when I booked and they confirmed it - it was the price from the day before...that creeped me out when they told me exact minutes that I clicked certain parts of their page...

I recently booked a trip to Puerto Rico. I did look at the popular travel sites, but I ended up booking right on the JetBlue site, I got a much better price.

Thank goodness Amex took care of it - but wow....that creeps me out about travelocity too....I'm really glad I read this thread!! I am definitely going to price them out on these sites and then do what you said and go straight to the airlines.....

Re: Where does everyone go online to book flights?

you are going to Madrid?? I have taken Delta there both times...(one we paid full price so that we could upgrade with miles to business - in the summer...and it was less than $1200 - in 2002)

my MIL prefers Iberia...
