Keep in mind that 'government' does not generate income on its own, it uses our taxes to fund itself and its programs.
All the money and administrators needed to fund and run the social programs, homeland security, the state parks, government grants and studies for arts and science, welfare, low interest loans, the federal highway program, the military, medicare and medicaid, trademark and copyright offices, the treasury, aid for farmers, food and medicine for third-world countries and on and on and on..... it all comes from your taxes - the good and the bad.
We are moving more and more towards a society that expects the government to take care of all our needs and the only way to fund that is to pay for it through our taxes. Not to mention the $10,000 hammers and political pork projects we hear about.
Don't want to start a philisophical war over what's politically right or wrong, it's just a matter of economics that somehow it all needs to be paid for, and our taxes are the source of funding.
