Where is an honest bridal store???
I'm so unhappy. I stopped into La Courture Boutique in Cold Spring Harbor after work looking for a specific dress. It was a Marisa dress and according to the website this store carries this designer. When I asked the woman at the store she told me that they do carry some Marisa dresses, but that none of their dresses are labeled and she doesn't know who the designers are. I could look through dresses, but she couldn't tell me who the designers were. After the deposit is put down, then she can tell me the designer. OK, I'm not an idiot. I have heard about this line and I do not believe that any sales person, in any business, that deals with products that start around $2,000 and up doesn't know who manufactures/designs the product. It was easy enough for me to thank her for her time and walk out, but what do you do if this happens when you've made an appointment/taken off time from work/gathered your mother and MOH to help you look for dresses? I refuse to put $$ down on a dress when I don't even know who designed it. My mom is flying in from out of state later this month for 3 days to help me look for a gown. If this kind of thing happened when she was here I would feel like a completely wasted my time and hers.Where can I go where this won't happen? Do you think she only did that to me b/c I didn't have an appointment and she didn't think I was serious about buying? When I was at Kleinfeld's my consultant told me who all the designers were, but I have also hear a lot of bad things about that place. What's wrong with these people??? They know it is illegal to do this. I'm going to post a complaint w/ the Federal Trade Commission, even though I know it won't do much.... has anyone been to an honest shop?? I would love to know where, so I can make appointments while my mom is here and we don't waste our time.

Re: Where is an honest bridal store???
I wish I could help you. Believe I know how you feel. My FH told me that my shopping for my gown was what he worried about the most because he knew he couldn't be with me and because they were going to be the sleeziest people to deal with. And he was right. You just have to be firm in what you want and don't let any salesperson convince you to buy anything when you're not ready or sure.

Go to Burton and Son's in Melville. I knew the make of the dress that I saw somewhere else and I got it there for sooo much less! I love them! Carol is awesome there - family owned and operated for 30 years.

Macys in lake grove (smithaven malll) carries some marisa dresses. Danielle helped me there, and was most wonderful! They leave the tags in everything, and if you find it somewhere for a better price they will work with you.

Re: Where is an honest bridal store???
I know I can help you with the honest part!
The ladies I bought my dress from are the most honset wonderful women I have ever done business with!
Angel bridals
39 West Main St
East Islip
631-581-3330
I recomend them to everyone I meet planning a wedding. I would travel there from ANYWHERE.
The only thing I don't understand... What difference does it make who designed it? If you love the dress, and it looks good on you, does it matter who's name is on it?
Maybe it was just the point that they wouldn't tell you.
If you have found a dress that you like bring a photo of it and they will create a copy of the dress for you. I told a freind of a friend about this and she is getting the dress she wanted for 1700 (I think) not the 4000 the designer is charging.
Definitely go to angel bridals, they are the best thing I ever did in all of my wedding planning.

Re: Re:'Where'is'an'honest'bridal'store???
I bought a Marisa dress at Bridal Reflections in Carle Place. I called them with style number from the Marisa website and asked if they have a sample. They did carry it! Might want to try that tactic?

Re: Where is an honest bridal store???
Try Bonaventure in Garden City (I think). They seemed to have the labels in them - and they had Marisa - I liked one of them as well. They were really nice there and before I had even noticed the labels in them, I asked the person helping me who made one dress I was trying on and she told me with no problem.I think it ***** too. I went to Elegant Bride in Albertson and they had no labels and 'didn't know' who any the dresses were designed by when I asked.

Re: Where is an honest bridal store???
I went to wedding salon of manhasset and they told me all the names of the designers I was trying on.I went to a Marisa truck shows at Macy's -you should check their website. Macy's keeps the tags in the dresses.
I would'nt shop somewhere where they wouldn't tell me the designer either.

Re: Where is an honest bridal store???
I honestly have to recommend Macys bridal salon in Manhasset. I have had the best experience with them! All of the girls are sooo nice and wonderful to work with! I have worked with Charmane (spelling?) almost the entire time and I absolutley love her! She loves her job and knows what she is doing. Not pushy, but offers excellent opinions! To me...they were all so honest! Didnt make me soend extra money but helped me out in every way possible. I cant say enough good things about them. They have made my planning wonderful! So try it out...you may not be disappointed!

Re: Where is an honest bridal store???
I got my Marisa at Bridal Couture of Manhasset and I found the same dress at Bridal Reflections in Massapequa. The Carle Place store didn't have it so if you check with Bridal Reflections check both stores.Which style # are you looking for? You can also e-mail Marisa directly and ask them who in the area would have the dress. I found them to be very responsive when I e-mailed them about a fabric sample.

Re: Where is an honest bridal store???
I have to agree with nychic. I was in the Macy's of Manhasset last Sunday and the women were awesome. I dealt mainly with Laura. When I went in with my mom, my mom was very honest with them - this was the first place I was looking, so there was no chance of me leaving any $$. Laura agreed that you should always go to a few shops before deciding. I thought her honesty was awesome - she knew she wasn't making a sale that day - yet spend 2 1/2 hours with me and my mom. I would love to get my dress there. Actually my girlfriend who's getting married on 10/6 is going there today for her fitting - I'll let you all know how it goes.Good luck!!!

Re: Where is an honest bridal store???
I would recommend Macys in Lake Grove or Manhasset. (I went to both looking for a particular Demetrios dress) Bring a pic or describe it and they'll find it for you.or
Bridal Reflections (I only went to the Carle Place location.) I don't think they had labels in their gowns, but they did tell me who the designers were as I tried them on.

Re: Where is an honest bridal store???
They had some Marisa dresses at Flowerama in Elmont. They have been very nice and helpful there. I didn't order my dress there only because they didn't carry it but I plan to order my BM dresses there (hopefully next week!). I also won't support a store that won't disclose information on a gown. Good luck!

Re: Where is an honest bridal store???
I also got my dress from Angels and love them there. And I agree they are deffinatly honest, when I was looking for my dress and found the one I wanted it was the least expensive out of the 5 I narrowed it down to. They didnt try to sell me the more expensive one. My Mother and FMIL were so impressed they got their dresses there also.

Re: Where is an honest bridal store???
My GF got married on 8/10 all of her BM dresses came from Angels...She had her dress just altered...Although I heard they were very helpful...they messed up on the MOH dress..It didn't fit...they took in too much and cut out the extra material...she could barely move in it. and they lost the brides slip. I think this happened because the best seamstress was on vacation. Keep an eye out for the alterations.

Re: Where is an honest bridal store???
Thanks for all the great suggestions. I also want to add RK Bridal (on 39th St) to this list of honest shops. I stopped by on Friday afternoon and all of the gowns were labeled. They were very up-front about prices and said they will match all competitors' quotes. It is probably a good idea to have an idea of what you are looking for when you go here, becuase there are racks and racks of gowns to sift through. I knew exactly what I wanted and it only took me a few minutes to find the gowns. I finally got to try on that Marisa gown I have been looking at and it was so beautiful!! Even nicer than it looked on the internet. Thanks ladies.Welcome New Vendors
