I feel like I'm one of the very few who isn't doing:
slipper baskets save the dates programs out of town baskets petal cones (getting married inside the hall so I really don't need them)
my hall provides the menus on the table and bathroom baskets or else I wouldn't have those either
I just hate to spend money on things people with throw away or not even notice.

Re: Where is everyone cutting costs?
So far I am not doing flowers in the church and menu's at the halls. I still have time to see what other things I can cut costs at. I didn't want to do program cards but My mom gave me a hard time about that.
There are probably a whole lot of other things that we just don't feel the need to do either.

Re: Where is everyone cutting costs?
The biggest way we saved money was not having our wedding smack in the middle of wedding season. We are having the large black tie wedding we always wanted at much less expense. Outside pictures (which are desirable to many)were never an option for us because we wanted a Saturday night wedding and cant get married til the sun goes down. Our same wedding any time after May would probably cost us ANOTHER 20K. All of those 'incidental and unnecessary' things that many people listed are NOT the things that are breaking us financially. They are easily budgeted and can be purchased little by little which is exactly how we did it. Absolutely NOTHING was purchased on impulse. It was the big ticket items like the hall and band and other things that have to be paid for in large amounts that caused us more concern. The little things were minimal at best and if you do your shopping, it can be done without breaking the bank. You can do an entire bathroom basket at a dollar store. I don't think I paid full retail price for anything in regard to this wedding - not even my dress.

I did the save the dates and I am having petal cones, other than that I am not doing any of the above. I am also getting married at Land's End and they provide beautiful menus on the table and the bathroom baskets they provide are amazing! But I agree with you, there is so much money spent on things people won't even notice at the wedding and I would hate throwing money away too on those items.

I'm not doing slipper baskets, save the dates, petal cones, favors, bathroom baskets (I don't even know what those are), or out of town basket (very few OOT guests).
I am making my own programs( $20 for 100 using stationary from Staples), and my own menus.
I got invitations on the web, and I am borrowing my veil, headpiece and petticoat.
I have not decided on the centerpieces, but I plan to use whatever pretty flowers are in bloom - that cuts down on cost.
Hope you feel better.

Re: Where is everyone cutting costs?
We printed save the date postcards from winkflash and it was really not that expensive.
I will do an OOT basket if I have the time because it is really only my friends from college and I will have fun supplying a hangover kit!
Nothing else that you listed. Is anybody not having or thinking about not having favors? My mom doesn't want to and we've been butting heads so much already...

I also addressed my envelopes myself on the computer.
i ordered my favors, menus, bridal party gifts and little stuff off of ebay.
I bought my shoes from bridesave.com and only paid $51.00 including tax and shipping.

girl, i am right there with you. no slopper basket, std's or petal cones. i'll have oot bags and bathroom baskets, but when the night is over that stuff is coming home with me, so its not money wasted.
