Re: Where is the cheapest place...
I can only speak from NYC experience.
We got Jim Hjelm dresses, and wanted to get measured and alterations at the same place.
We compared prices with Phyllis at Gownfind, Netbride, RK Bridal, Maid to Order, and Valentina's, and Valentina's gave us the best prices all together.

Gownfind is run by Phyllis, a discount bridal representative. She is independely operated. She has a little store out of her house and is able to discount the dresses. She is also a seamstress- she used to work in a bridal shop, so she does all of the alterations too.
My girls paid $98 for a Jordan dress through netbride.com.

It might depend more upon the designer you're looking at than the shop. I haven't heard the raves reviews about gownfind.
