Where NOT to go (review)...
Okay ladies, so me and my 2 best girlfriends just got back from 5 days/4 nights in Cancun. We stayed at the Oasis Palm Beach all-inclusive resort and it was a misery!!! The resort itself looks gorgeous and they're staff is constantly maintaining it's upkeep, but it's not a nice place:
As for the food, since it was AI, we had all of our meals and drinks taken care of. Now, I will admit, the 3 of us ARE picky eaters, however, that being said, the choice of restaurants at the resort were VERY odd. We had our choice of Mexican, Thai, Fish (and yes, they only had fish, not like here where they'd have steak or something, too), and then the International Buffet, which was where we had to have breakfast everyday since it was the only place open. The breakfast buffet was GREAT! No complaints there - except their coffee is gross so I essentially lived without caffeine for 5 days LOL. For dinners at the buffet, the first night, I dunno what the heck the 'theme' was, but we barely ate anything they had. We learned night #2 was going to be French food, night #3 was to be Indian/spicy food, and we didn't bother to find out what night #4 was. We ended up eating 2 nights outside of the resort, thus having to pay money.
In terms of our room, it was very tiny although they did bring us a cot. The shower didn't drain, so that by the end of your shower you were standing in 6 inches of water. The sink leaked into our bedroom area, and the toilet needed to be plunged every other day. We called maintenance several times and they sent someone up who would claim everything was fine but it never was.
The maid service didn't get to our room until 4-5 PM everyday! That is completely insane b/c at that time, we don't want them there b/c we were IN the room trying to get ready for dinner, and we didn't have clean towels or anything. We just kept stealing clean ones off their carts LOL. The hotel only had 1 elevator and it barely worked. We were on the 7th floor so that was always an adventure. The staff there had no clue how to answer any of our questions. We could ask the same question to 3 different people and get 3 completely different answers.
And the piece de resistance was that none of the phones inside the resort would allow you to call out internationally. The front desk told us they had a block on them. SO in order to call FH every night, I LITERALLY had to stand on a street corner outside our hotel and use a Telmex pay phone. My friends would come with me since I wasn't about to stand there alone at night.
The few good things about our trip/this hotel: The pool was AMAZING and the entertainment staff were great!! Our last 2.5 days thats where we spent our time and we had a blast! And the breakfast buffet was good. Thats about all. When we checked out yesterday, we left the front desk staff a list of our complaints but I doubt it will matter to them. I also intend to email Priceline, which is where we booked it thru.
So, in conclusion - DON'T stay at the Oasis Palm Beach Resort LOL! I just thank God this wasn't our honeymoon, it was just a trip w/ the girls!
