Where NOT to have a reception??

I am recently engaged and searching for a reception hall. I can't spend a ton of time looking for places since I live out of state. So, where do you suggest that I DON'T consider and why?? Thanks!!

What are you looking for? How many people do you expect at the wedding? Waterview? Golf course? Do you care if there is more than 1 affair at a time?

I think a lot of people on here will shy away from telling you were NOT to look...but would give you suggestions on where you COULD look, based on what you have in mind.

See, that's just not nice because there are a few girls having their reception there, who DO like the Huntington Town House.

pegny - do you have a budget?

edited for spelling.

I agree with the above post. Tell us what you are looking for in a reception hall (one event at a time, gardens, overlooking water, lots of chandeliers and mirrors, brick walls, price $, day or night wedding, day of week) and we can give you suggestions. Otherwise, feelings can get hurt. Good luck!

That's a dangerous question. I certainly have some places that I would never consider having a reception, but I don't think it is appropriate to post such a list considering there are girls on here who have had or will have their receptions there. Tell us your price range and your preferences and I am sure we would all be happy to make recommendations.

Maybe if someone feels VERY strongly against a site, they can FM you, rather than hurt another bride's feelings. I know myself, and I would be hurt if I saw something nasty poseted about my venue. But I can help with place TO have your's! Definitely decide on what's important to you, and that narrows it down right away. Happy planning!

Thought I might offer a suggestion.
If you are interested in both positive and negative feedback - maybe fellow brides could FM or email you their negative thoughts?

I agree that positive feedback might be more productive and less hurtful.

Also - it would help to know why we like or dislike a specific venue.

There is no substitute for looking yourself.
I am sure we have all heard from other brides who LOVE a place where we really couldn't picture ourselves getting married. A wide variety of styles are going to complicate this.

If you list a price range, number of guests (since it was the minimums imposed by venues that kept me out of a lot of my favorite places) and any other important qualifications.
