Where should Caiden be sleeping???

Where should Caiden be sleeping???

He's been more fussy at night, but that's another issue... But Caiden either has his nights and days mixed up or he doesn't have any sense of night and day yet. He is much better during the day of course. He basically doesn't have a bedtime. It's the same pattern day and night. He sleeps for a couple of hours (most of the time), and then he eats, and usually goes back to sleep. It's the same routine all the time. So my question is, where should he be sleeping at night? Right now, he doesn't care for the bassinet or crib, so when he does sleep it's in his bouncer whether it's daytime or nighttime. Should he not be sleeping in his bouncer all the time, or is it alright since he's still real little? Or should we try to get him to sleep in his crib to start setting a nighttime schedule? We've tried the crib and it's only worked 1 night. Thanks!

I think a lot of this is going to be personal opinions and doing what you feel comfortable with. At his age it is natural that he will be waking up more often to feed, etc. Here's what we did...

Ryan hated the bassinette. During the day when he was that little he slept in his bouncy seat or the car seat or in the stroller if it was a nice day and I took him out. Because he suffered from infant congestion problems, many nights he slept in his bouncy or car seat on top of our bed in between us (ped recommended). After that, he slept with us in our bed every night. He also napped on my bed. We didn't move him into his crib on a regular basis until he was around 7 months old. He's been there for naps and nighttime ever since.

I think this decision has to be made based on baby's temperment and your own comfort level about where he sleeps. Some people like the 'family bed' - we did for a while. Some are very against it. I don't know why he absolutely HATED the bassinette - I think it was because he was so big and he felt 'tight' in there. Just go with what feels right to you and your husband and whatever gets you all some sleep!!

Edited to add: I don't think at this age you can have a set schedule or set bedtime - that won't happen for a few months!

Lee - that must have been a sight with 2 adults in bed at night and a baby in the carseat in the middle!

hey - whatever works, right?

Its so hard because we never know if what we are doing is the right thing. But I do think that it is trial and error and just seeing what works for you.

At first my daughter had her days and nights mixed up too. She usually slept in her bouncy seat during the day - sometimes for a few hours at a time. I was never able to get her to nap in her pack n play or in her crib.

At night she never slept more than 2 or 3 hours at a time. When she was around 7 weeks, my husband decided to put her in her crib at night and she slept 10 hours. Now she sleeps great at night and I have a tough time getting her to nap during the day (which is fine by me!)

About a month ago I started letting her nap on her belly (at 4 months) and she seems to nap better that way. I am comfortable with that because during the day I can keep a close eye on her. At night she is perfectly fine to sleep on her back. Go figure!

Sometimes she makes no sense, but I have learned to take each day at a time and know that it will probably change tomorrow.

Teri - you really have no idea what a sight it was!! Boy, I'm glad that's over with. But you are absolutely right - I've learned that 'whatever works' is a definite strategy with a lot of baby things!!

I think where he should be sleeping depends on a lot of things. He is so young and will be eating frequently for a while. But, I would try to start some sort of evening routine soon, just so he starts to learn that it's bedtime. From what I understand it's never to early for a routine.
