Congratulations!!!!!!!

I have heard it said that you get the church first then the venue.
FH and I didn't set a date and we did it in reverse. We got the venue which set the date for us as it was one that was available and then found the church. We wanted a venue that suited us and our personalities and worked from there.
As we are not members of a specific congregation we were able to find one near the venue that allows weddings for non-members.
If you are a member of the church where you want to marry I suggest getting that set first, then the venue.

Again congratulations and enjoy the journey.

They say you should book the church first, then the venue, but we booked the venue first because we fell so in love with it and didn't have a preference for a church as long as it was Catholic. A friend of mine who recently got engaged asked the venue to hold the date for her until she was able to book with her parish first, so you can do that as well!

Re: Where to begin

congratulations and welcome!

we basically let our venue choose our wedding date for us - we found a venue we loved, found out dates that were available, and chose from there. however, we are getting married at the venue, rather than a church. if you decide to get married at the church, you should check with them first.

Re: Where to begin

Congrats! You have the date we originally told venues when we first started looking...and before we decided we didn't want to wait that long. lol.

I had the same question when I started out as well. It's been said church then venue. We booked the venue first...whoops! Luckily the church had the date available.

Ditto. October 25 was the only Saturday available in October for our venue!

we are getting married at our church, and we decided to go venue searching first, and when we found the place we wanted to book, we got them to hold our date for 48 hours for us. Then, within those 2 days we booked the church.

we kind of went back and forth between the venue and church. we had heard that the Catholic church was very strict and wanted to make sure they were chosen before the venue so we went in all prepared to let them pick our date (we did have a date on hold at our dream venue already). when we met with the priest though he was like 'what date did you want?' so we were like 10/10? it worked out but it definitely depends on what priest you have. start researching and seeing venues to see what days they have available first.

Congrats and welcome! After FH and I got engaged we first created a guest list so we knew how big or small of a venue we would need. Then we researched venues we likes (even though my heart was set on Flowerfield Lol). We both wanted a Fall wedding but were flexible. From there we called to see what venues could accommodate the size guest list we had and made appointments to go see venues and get prices and packages. From there we determined what venue we liked best and what time of year and day of the week fit our budget. Then we fit that with what Flowerfield had available and lo and behold we are getting married 10/3/2014! We are doing the ceremony at our venue so I'm not any help with coordinating the church. Keep in mind...certain months are more expensive, and Saturday evening weddings are usually the most expensive day of the week. Hopefully, this helps a little!

Congrats!! I would def say book the church first. When we booked our venue we knew around when we wanted to get married and we were lucky enough had openings around the time we wanted. We picked the date more base on our work schedules.
