Where to begin with Budget

Where to begin with Budget

Since I'm new to this whole planning thing I was wondering how you all handled the budget.

My mom has offered to pay for the reception and my dress. BUT, my dad died a few months ago and as much as I am happy she has offered to pay for the reception I don't want to make her broke. I know she's doing it because she wants to but also because it's what my dad would have wanted.

For those that have had their parents pay for their receptions did your parents give you a limit or actual dollar figure. For example, $30 - 40K for reception or did you just try to find a reasonable price per head and ask them if they approve?

My parents paid for the reception and my dress. FH and I are trying to pay for everything else. We really didn't discuss a budget. We just went to look at places and they immediately knew which place we loved and the $ worked with how much they could pay. Even if we could meet the minimum# of people for a Sat. nite wedding, I don't think we would have done that bc we didn't want my parents to be broke.

My parents are giving us a lump sum of money and my mother is buying my dress and everything that goes with it.
My sisters are paying for my photographer and videographer.

FH and I are paying for the bulk of the wedding on our own. I set a budget and I am refusing to go over it. I've been successful so far........

my mom is giving me a lump sum and the rest is btw FH and I. I havent really budgeted well during the process, which is so bad! Honestly, if u shop around and exclude things that arent needed, you can save alot of money! goodluck

My parents are paying for RH - FH & I for everything else....
We set an amount for everything and I divided what I could spend on this and that.....
So far I'm over my budget by 1500

One thing to keep in mind is usually the cost of the reception equals 50% of the entire budget so everything else usually comes out to the other 50%. So when you start looking for RH ask how much the entire cost is not just per head but per head with tax, gratuity and any other extras. This way you will have an idea as to what the entire affair will cost. Good Luck

Why not ask your mom what her budget is and go from there? What time of year were you planning? There is so much that goes into everything. You may be able to get the location you really want for a great price if you do it during their off season.
