I am starting to look for a hotel to block rooms at. Plus I also want to get ready at the hotel. SO my question is what hotel would you guys recommend I look at?

Re: Where to block rooms?- Swan Club
we got married at the SC and we blocked our rooms at Four Points Sheraton in Plainview. I HIGHLY recommend them. We worked with Ryan and it was such an easy process. I stayed in the bridal suite with my MOH the night before the wedding and got ready in the room in the morning. It's a very nice hotel and not too pricey!

I'm also a Swannie and had the same dilemma a few weeks ago. I looked at hotel in the Astoria area (where we live) and they were incredibly expensive for what someone would get. I went further east to Garden City but the prices were even worse. There is a Red Roof Inn in Garden City that is about $140/night but I was looking for a larger national chain.
I wanted something a little more, so I took 'Bensgirl' advice and checked-out the Four Points. It's really great - $139/night, the rooms were very nice, the suites were true suites and the property was immaculate. I wasn't too crazy about the rep I met so I went across the street to the Hiltons.
I met with Trish at the Homewood Suites which were great because you get a kitchen and a very nice room but the rates were higher and I didn't like the fact they they wanted me to guarantee ten rooms with my own credit card. I went across the parking lot to the Hilton (same private owner) and found the hotel to cater less to the business crowd and more comfortable. The suites weren't true suites, with a separate bedroom but it was spacious.
I opted for the Four Points because it is 14 miles from the Swan Club and if you are interested in renting their coach, they will offer service to and from the Swan Club. It feels like a further distance than it truly is and easily accessible to the LIE. If too far, try the Inn at Great Neck, Glen Cove Mansion, Andrew Hotel or Garden City Hotel.

We have our rooms blocked at the Glen Cove Mansion - if you tell them you're getting married at the Swan Club they give you a discounted price.

Whatever you do, I'd book in 2 hotels at different price points to give your guests an option.

that's great! i'm glad the Four Points worked out for you!
Ivyqueenz--i actually lived in astoria at the time of our wedding so it was a hike for us to get that far out east as well, but because we stayed there the night before the wedding, it didn't seem so bad. in fact, it seemed like a nice little 'retreat'.

Re: Where to block rooms?- Swan Club
We booked at the La Quinta in GC. The price was comparable with other places and they have a shuttle. The shuttle is free within a few miles and we got free shuttle service for our family staying at the hotel because we booked a certain number of rooms.
We ended up getting free chocolates and champagne, drank in the bar after the wedding, and caught the shuttle to and from Steve & Barry's to have a little fun at the afterparty.
