Where to book hotels- Manhattan or LI

My FI and I live in Manhattan but are getting married in Oceanside, LI. His family is flying in and will most likely be staying in Manhattan. We have not decided where we will do a rehersal dinner yet, but most likely we will do something casual in the city Sat. night (we are getting married). We are also having a celebration in the temple the saturday before our wedding, also in Manhattan (most likely). So, for the other out of town guests coming in for the weekend, I am not sure if I should block hotel rooms in the city or on the island. What do you think?

Our wedding is Sunday night 6:00- 12:00 and we will most likely be providing busses from the reception to the city.

Could you do both? So people have the option of where they want to stay? I always think it's a good idea to book a hotel as close to the place as possible - so if people have been drinking or are tired - but maybe you should book one on the island and one in NYC so people have the choice. Just a thought!
Closest to Oceanside would prob be Holiday Inn in RVC and Garden City Hotel.

We are going through the same planning dilemma--we live in NYC and the wedding is on LI on a Saturday evening. We are seeing my FH's family over the holidays and we were going to ask them if they prefer the rehearsal dinner in the city or on long island--so far they've told us we should do what we want to do. So we are trying to figure out logistics, price, etc.

Back to the hotel question. I am currently looking into reserving a block in Manhattan and a block on Long Island, though I get the feeling the majority of our guests from out of town will be staying in Manhattan--it always seems like everyone has a friend who they can stay with or they want to hang out in NYC as much as possible. We are putting together our 'Save the Date' card and I have thought about putting something with it like if you are coming from out of town will you be staying in hotel, but it seems like an awkward request.

Let me know what you end up doing.

I would look into both options. Price might be a big factor here for some guests. If you are providing transportation then that is a bonus. We booked the Wingate Inn in Garden City. They were reasonable for this hotel. My cousin stays at this chain on business and he said they are all great.

If you do manhattan I would definitely pick a hotel in midtown but then you are living in manhattan and probably have your own ideas.

I sent hotel info with my save the dates.

Good Luck.

I agree, do both. There is a new hotel in Rockville Centre - the Hampton Inn or Embassy Suites (I think it's Embassy). It's only there about 1 year.

Hotels in LI will be cheaper, that's all I can think of. And people can take the train from RVC if they stay on LI.

It sounds like my situation!
All of FH's guests are flying in and they all want to stay in NYC. Our reception is on LI and we are providing a shuttle bus.

We ended up blocking TWO hotels in the city:
The Paramount (on 49th/Broadway, I think)
And The Best Western President (48th/8th)

And ONE hotel in LI:
Wingate Inn (Garden City)
All of our OOT guests are excited, many will be visiting NYC for the first time and wanted the NYC experience.

Edited to say, my groom will be staying in the city and our rehearsal dinner will also be in NYC so it was easier for the guests to stay there too.
